How perfect should the S/C pulley be when spinning? I recently purchased a used one and noticed it appears bent. It wobbles when I spin it. I've not put a dial indicator on it to see how far out it is and I never spun my OEM pulley before I bent it to see how perfect it was. I'm pretty sure this was taken off with a s/c pulley removal tool, but after seeing this, I wonder if the only good way to remove one of these is via a press.

i used the puller, its pretty impossible to bend it using the right puller, the block that pulls the pulley off only touches the thick center hub part.

maybe the shaft is moving a bit, not the pulley. there no tension on it.

I suspect the pulley, itself. The inner bore was pretty beat up. It was beaten or hit on the side toward the s/c and the bore was badly scored. When I say hit, what I mean is that the steel had been folded inward toward the bore. I had to remove it with a file before I could press it on.

When running, it doesn't seem too terrible, but it's surely not true. It could be a matter of the ribs being true, but the outside surfaces not being so true. This is a possibility. I'll look at it closer tomorrow.

It's pretty easy to bend a pulley. If you didn't support it fully when pulling it off it can bend. I use a 2 piece bolt together pulley puller plates. I bent a few but none since using the plates.

I used my pulley puller taking it off. I've never had one bend or get messed up in anyway before and I've done dozens. I'm thinking his sc shaft may be bent slightly

The pulley has a wobble from side to side of .027". The center "hub" portion of the pulley has about a .0005" deviation. The vent bolt seems to spin without any wobble at all.

I don't believe the bend would have been visible, had it not been spinning on a shaft.

I've removed the belt since I didn't want to take a chance on knocking the end bearing out, until I get this corrected. After looking at it better today, my initial peek at it while it was running last night didn't do it justice. It's visible on the on the belt that it's going back and forth.

ZZP says they check their pulleys before sending them out, so I ordered one. I'll put it on an arbor to check before I install it this time.

Do you have any tips on the re-installation process? I'm getting one of sseilmnop's pullers to do the work.

Putting them on doesn't f them up. Pulling them off by the OD bends them.

I had an issue with mine a while ago on the stock pulley. If you put a decent amount of tension on it (with the puller of course) and then tap the back of the pulley with a rubber mallet it'll generally free it up. Mine was sorta siezed on the shaft.

I pulled my OEM pulley with the ZZP puller, as I remember it came off with relatively little force, no bending. I'll send you mine free if you pay shipping.
