Ive been having a bunch of 3800's to tune lately and im sick of paying hptuners 100 bucks a pop when there is virtually 0 support for this platform. I'm looking to buy a DHP but I'm afraid I won't be able to get the thing register for use. I had one several years ago but sold it for hpt. Any insight would be appreciated and anyone selling one PM me.

i had some issues getting the cable to register but after figuring out what i was doing wrong, settings wise, it registered asap.

knowing what i know now, i was able to set the cable up on my desk top pc too so i can use a off board tuner. i was having laptop issues, it kept crashing, so off board is my new how to when flashing a new tune. much safer in my book.

i also run Xp on my desktop pc so it works smoother then new versions. ( i up graded to win7 but kept the old XP os so i can use it still)

other say it works just fine on win 7 so it just maybe my laptop not being cool enough to handle the program. you do have to got tell it to run in compatibility mode for XP sometimes too.

the settings issues were finding the comm port for the keyspan adapter in the pc. mine was hidden, had to force it to show, then match that comm port to the dhp. while you got the driver property's open, note its speed. go into tools iirc in dhp, make the speed match, then try to register the cable. mine went through like a flash once all that stuff was synced up.

Hmmm, I thought I remember having to enter a registration code or something of the sort. I'm still gonna scan with hpt though lol

why not just unlock them with hpt by the year instead of by the car? Cheaper in the long run.

Cheaper with dhp in the long run, plus more tables

Well there is that but if you were gonna stick with hpt just unlock the year. Hard finding some bins on dhp.

So I bought it. I already have 00's unlocked in htp but I'm tired of not having full control over the tune. Especially cat light off, the inability to turn off cat diagnostics in the later years and a few other tables. Also, I've noticed in the 04 cars commanded open loop af ratio is all over the map regardless of what your try to command in the tune, most likely the table is mapped wrong.

Speaking of cat diagnostics, does anyone know how to turn them off in the 01-up cars? I didn't see the option in tiny tuner maybe it's obvious with DHP?

Can you send me a link to the stock bins please?

Also, what is involved in registering the DHP? Is it just hooking up the cable to the laptop and selecting the correct com port? I have an old copy of the software and I can get up to that point.

My sticky on this forum has all the dhp stuff youll ever want.

04+ open loop is a clusterfk... I just end up smashing the maf table but I suspect there is a max/min ltft value somewhere that might work to fix the problems.

    I'll read that next here.

I emailed hpt about the open loop issue and was told they would put it in the stack of things to do. Good thing they've made a grand off my 3800 tunes in the last month alone. I also mentioned the cat light off table (startup timing retard) as well as the cat diag. We will see what happens.

I've been able to work around the open loop issue as well, caused some problems with tip-in that took some creativity to sort. Have you noticed the same glitch with DHP?

I don't see anything that would allow a limit on max fuel trimming unless someone can add it to the tiny tuner. Not sure on how actively updated it is. Open loop seems to be the only fix for now
