You might now get it back in there without loosening that bolt. Just take the boot off.

I've had it on the shaft before. I just can't find the bolt everyone is talking about, I see it in diagrams but my car just has to shafts that slide into each other, the only boots in that area are on the inner tie rods
Is there not a boot on the steering shaft coming out of the firewall? And if you are missing that clamp you should get a new one, it would be very dangerous to drive the car with it like that you hit a bump and that will come out.
What does what look like? The clamp? It looks like a clamp and it should be on the end of the shaft coming out of the firewall.
Let me see if I can't find a picture of it.
It should look like the clamp on the end of this thingy.

Yeah the shaft coming out of the firewall goes into the one coming out of the rack.
Its a clamp. It clamps the 2 pieces together.
Well I can give you the complicated answer that goes into physics or I can just tell you that it just does lol.
Seriously?

follow the pics in this thread http://www.grandprixforums.net/threa...placement-time
your intermittent shaft came apart nothing more.
this is one, note the threaded hole that side is on your rack still, take that bolt out and the shaft end will come off. then take the small bolt out and put the shaft back together.
