Ok so I have a 98 Grand Prix GTP with 98k miles. It has a clicking noise coming from the conical shaped part of the engine (to the left of the engine) Not sure if thats the supercharger or what. It kind of sounds like a can being kicked around. It disappears upon the slightest acceleration. What could it be? Is it a DIY kind of thing?

That would be the supercharger coupler. It's about $50 to fix. You'll need a coupler from zzp, wbodystore, or 3800 performance, 2-3 bottles of Gm supercharger oil, an empty squirt bottle, 10mm socket, and I believe its a torx head plug on the conical section in front. Diy would probably take an hour? Not a bad job at all.

Simply put, you take the snout off, replace a plastic piece, put the snout back on, and fill with the supercharger oil.

Alright so the coupler itself is only like 27 bucks. So how would I drain the current oil before taking the snout off?

Nevermind, I figured that part out, but how do you get the belts off? I watched a Youtube video and he said that you have to do that before anything. Sorry, I'm only 16 so new to the mechanics of cars haha

Don't be sorry, I am glad to hear you are trying. PM me and I will give you my contact info. I am by far not an expert, but I did mess with cars in my youth. My first car was a 67 Mustang not be cause it was cool, they were just old cars. I bought it when I was 15 and my first project was a valve job. Of course back then they did not have the internet, youtube, or such. Just like you I tore it down and did my best to put it back together. Now I am not old enough to walk to school up hill both ways in the snow, the hill was just one way. :-)

Just let me encourage you to keep asking questions and keep trying.

try your local dealership, for what ever reason some states the sc oil is like 10 bucks and then here in NJ its 20 a bottle. looking on line you should be able to find it for less then that link.

use "anaerobic sealer" to seal the snout back to the case. no lock tight is needed.

You'll want gloves too probably.... supercharger oil is the most foul smell you will ever encounter.

When you buy the ZZP couple you can get a kit to go with it that will have everything you need. It's a good way to go if you don't have the other things. Comes with a big syringe and hose to get the old oil out and comes with the sealant needed when putting it back together.

Heres what I learned from doing mine
WEAR GLOVES!!!!!! The old oil smells terrible.
Get as much of the oil out as you can. I just put mine in a soda bottle
when you go to take off the snout, be sure to put some rags under it to catch any oil.

what hes said^^^^^ i laid rags under the snout and down the side of the lim, and stuffed them down the top of lim and water pump, then as soon as it was off i sprayed it all down with brake cleaner, gears and all used said rags to mop up, then re sprayed and wiped it up again.

and wear some latex gloves, doubling up is a good idea too cause this old oil is worse than a dirty whore lol
