I live in St . Augustine, FL would like to meet other fellow classic car nuts.....
ok thanks for the reply......looking for some tech info on my 69 model J if you know anyone...thanks
Just saw this I'm south east of the Tampa area!
im in gainesville!
Just a question... GXPKILLER.... does this mean you kill GXPs? Please stay away from mine lol :P
lol well when i first made my account i was planning on building my car to be faster than a gxp, So therefore thats how gxpkiller came along. lol but that dream has awaken again and in progress.
I was going to say that you definitely don't have a GXP killer stock lol
I may join the Florida crew in August/September, hopefully lol. Still researching/considering the move from Chicago. Looking at Tampa, Ft. Myers, Gainsville. Tallahassee is on backburner. Lookin to finish my BA in Info Tech/networking and say goodbye to snow.
Tampa is a nice place to settle down : )
Outside of Tampa is a nice place to settle down, Tampa itself is cool, but crowded and traffic is crazy (even compared to Jax/Orlando)
Gainesville is a really nice place, lots of college kids, but it has a more rural surrounding. Ft. Myers is old people, and Tallahassee is neat, but it's like a bigger, angrier Tampa.
Also, once we're doing with GXPKILLER's car, it should be giving them a good run for their money.
West Palmmm
Through all my reading, the Tampa area definitely seems like a nice place and somewhere I would enjoy living. Haven't looked at schools yet in Tampa tho, seems all the flagships are elsewhere. Also been looking at Central Florida Uni in Orlando, they have programs closest to what I have already been studying and would probably transfer nicely...but really would like to be closer to the Gulf tho. I read Orlando can get particularly extreme with the humidity without the coastal winds. Been to south FL/Ft.myers/keys nearly a dozen times, I think the beach life would suit me. Also an avid fisherman.
I need to do lots more reading. Actually throwing around moving down there for a year to establish residency, literally can save 75% on tuition at some universities. Would give me a chance to hop around and see where I like best. But I've read the job market isn't great, so that probably is just wishful thinking anyways.
I'm from/in Tallahassee when I'm home. Come up to the real FL, we've got great fishing and much better beaches than the rest of the state along the Panhandle. There's good schools here and it's pretty cheap to live here. Also you're coming down to the south, it's wet and humid everywhere. Though if you want the southern culture then stay in N FL, central and S are just Yankees and Cubans.
Aha yea Tally is still being considered. Never been to/stayed in the panhandle of FL unfortunately. Every forum thread I read says Tally area has the small town country feel but in reality isn't that small and still has a lot of features. The heat and humidity is why I want to move down there aha.
It's still got somewhat of a small town feel. Especially if you're from here you always see people you know. There's only like 170K people who say the live here and we have an influx of 80K students every year, that's a chunk for sure. There's not nearly as much to do here as Orlando of course but there's stuff to do if you look. The car scene is a close knit community as well.
Sandman, any ballpark on rent for a 1/2br apt in Tally? I've looked at ads but that's not the best insight. Seems like $700 will get you something decent but possibly rural'ish. Don't need anything fancy obviously being a student. Covered parking for my black gp would be worth a fair price to me tho.
Any comment on the job market?
I never lived in apartments, I lived in some townhouses. One was a 4/3 for $800 a month then another 4/4 for $900 IIRC, that's for the whole house but without a yard or garage though. The first place was a hole and the second was nice if it wasn't for being in the middle of a sketch neighborhood. There is a **** ton of places to stay though, they've built several new apartment complexes just in the last couple of years. Most anything along Ocala, Pensacola, and Tennessee St are your main college apartment areas and houses besides right around campus.
The job market is kind of weird in Tally, most everything is either with the Government or schools for an actual career, but for students its typical college jobs working for the school, restaurant, or Publix (awesome grocery store). We don't have many private businesses here besides mom and pop restaurants, etc.
Also for you there's lots of freshwater and saltwater fishing.
Cool thanks for the insight. Taking notes. Hopefully one of the schools needs a Helpdesk Tech if I end up there lol.
Sounds pretty decent to me though, I think I could be content there. The fishing is alluring for sure.
Gotta figure out the university situation though first. I am doubtful about FSU cooperating and transferring my AS nicely...but we shall see.
If you really want to go to FSU and they don't take you but you've got some classes you can still take at a community college then look into Tallahassee Community College and then see if you can transfer, they're a great little college.
