Totally new to this forum. (I think I am posting this in the right place). I own a 2004 GTP, and I just put a new engine in it and am looking to get a new parts and such for the car. I want to start with rotors...

I am seeing a lot of information supporting slotted and drilled rotors, but which brand would you guys recommend? I'm mostly between Baer Decela rotors, EBC stage 10, and Chrome Brakes rotors. I'm not sure which would be best for my car. I don't ride it too hard, but I want good performance.

*I am aware of the dangers of crackin, etc*

why are you contemplating putting on rotors that cost as much as the car?

there's absolutely nothing wrong with a set of centric (produced by stoptech) slotted rotors for like $75 a pair.

i would never buy drilled rotors, but you already stated you didn't want to hear about cracking and the like so i'll leave it alone.

I know there isn't anything wrong with cheaper rotors, I was just saying what I was currently looking at and just looking for any helpful opinions on those brands or other brands.

i don't think you can go wrong with baer or EBC. i have not heard of chrome brakes, but i don't really look for expensive brake parts either.

what's pushing you towards getting spendy rotors versus something a little more reasonable?

$300 rotors Pssh.. Centric or R1 concepts. It's a Grand Prix not a racecar dropping that much on rotors is a waste of money.

I have a friend with a shop so he gets the parts for wholesale prices, so they end up not being too crazy. I wasn't looking to get crazily expensive rotors, just nicer ones than the cheap after market ones that were on it when I bought the car. I wasn't sure what brand would be good, just going by the three brands people recommended to me.

I did just have to put a new engine in it though, so I am looking to make the car nicer than it was, which is why I want to get new rotors, among other things. The ones on it need to be replaced anyway, they are all pitted.

Why does everyone recommend R1s so much if they are junk? How are they junk?

I am not trying to argue with you I would just like to know why they are junk, you saying they are junk means as much as me saying that Chicken is the best food ever. And this is one of the things that really has urked me about this place over the years. Give some reasoning behind what you say, just don't say things as if they are a fact without backing it up with at least some sort of reasoning or proof or something.
    /end rant.

lots of people run them and they're probably fine for 90% of the people out there. and honestly probably 75% of the rotors on the market are chinese pot metal stamped pieces of crap that were turned a little bit to be even.

it's my opinion. nothing more. that's why i specifically won't recommend them.

Matt had passed on his knowledge that they were typically using centric blanks. From there the rotors get worked further and coated.

I've used R1 in the past and am on my third set of rotors, quality is great.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

well unless the rotors actually were molded with the drills/slots...then i DEFINITELY wouldn't want them.

My front rotors are Hawk Performance and they are worth every penny. Got them for Christmas and they were purchased from R1 Concepts

    wow, nice.

you're the first person to bring up actually upgrading the stopping power with something bigger and better than sticking with the stock size.

do this. get the 12" upgrade at least. it's cheap.

I have Baer stuff on my gp and ebc on my wifes TL both work well but honestly I don't know if they are better than a cheaper alternative.
