I have a 2000 pontiac grand prix and the front headlights suck they have so much moisture in them i tried silverstar lights but it did not do the trick just wondering how i cold get them dried out without spending to much

one thing ive done before is get 2 bottles of isoprophyl alcohaul, and pour one bottle in each headlight, swash around, and pour out. use a hair drier to remove intereor moisture, then use silicone, reseal around the headlamp, and make sure the rubber O ring is on the bulb and in good condition.. should seal it up nicely.. one more thing ive done is put a few packets of silica gel (like you get in shoe boxes / electronics) to help absorb moisture underneath the reflector, so you cant see it, but it will keep it nice and dry inside.

Just some cheap suggestions.

everyone on here seems to say just pick up the ebay black housings.

but you dont want to spend money

does anybody actully know how to get the pitting and yellow crap off of the headlights? i've tried the sandpaper/wax thing, it helped but they're still a little foggy. and i don't have the $100 to spend on the new assembly.

Theirs not a whole lot you can do about the headlight yellowing as thats a sign of UV damage to the headlight capsules. As far as the pitting is concerned, you need to keep wet sanding.

Start lower at say 400 grit and get rid of all the pits. Then work your way all the way up to 1500 or so by going up exponentially. After that get a high quality plastic conditioner/polisher such as PLEXUS (thats what they use on the B2 bomber windshields). I use that on my new capsules and they look amazing and their already 2 years old.

For a heads up, lots of headlights have a clear coat on them to protect the plastic lens from UV rays. When you wet sand them or use a very abrasive polish, you strip the lens of protection and thats why they usually turn yellow. Use a true plastic polish and that will extend the life of your capsules.

I've tried everything on my headlights. I tried toothpaste, wet sanding, and the alcohol thing. They're still cloudy as hell.

But on the up side they're sanitized and minty fresh...

You have to buff after wet sanding.

We did. Still pointless. Half the silicone is missing and I'm assuming that means there's just a ton of moisture getting in. I contemplated baking the silicone off and resealing them but ran out of time.

If you can see that the uv coating is gone in some spots (the lens looks like a puzzle piece or camoflouge) on your headlights try 600 or 800 to begin just make sure each step up is sanded thoroughly. By going down to 2500 you should be able to hand buff them with Meg's Ultimate Compound.

i did this and it worked good on the outside but the inside was just as bad im searching for the black housings for cheap i see them on ebay for $138 shipped
