well was thinking a decent 70k used junk yard 65 s/c model would make a better and more durable platform for a 200hp 3800 daily

i forgot about the ratio change though. with a lower ratio wouldnt it slow it down off the line but be more efficient on the highway?

^that is a good question and what I was looking into, but my tranny seems to have a new lease on life since I got a new PCM. The ratio is the big difference between the S/C application of the 4t65. Less miles would be best, but the 4t65 for the N/A will easily be durable for the N/A 3.8. Which is why the N/A cars got the standard 4t65. Except for ours.

yeah, i was reading that, said the 4t65 went straight across the platform for 98

actually we have 2.38 ratio so going with the 65-hd 3.29:1 MN7 would be a double plus

finding one in the junk yard would be fun though....

and its just the daily driver, i have my time in my other car, bros project, and about a million other things. i was seriously thinking about just building a 4t60e, with tearing it apart and rebuilding, you can use 4t65 parts and pretty much do whatever you want to it except it will still be vaccum controlled.

i suppose im just contradicting the **** out of my self and buying a junk yard 65e ready to go except for the shaft, pcm a few wire mods would just be easier, quicker and free my time for everything else.

like you originally said when the thread started.

with that said are the outer splines that fit into the wheel hub the same? does that need to be swapped too or is that where the 1st design and 2nd design come into play?

^I don't know for sure about that one, but I would think they are the same.

im asking questions i can answer for myself. i need sleep. all you would have to do is cross reference the wheel bearing hubs and see if they are the same part.

plus if you only have to swap out one axle, and driver side stays the same both front wheel bearing hubs are usually universal which tells me there the same unless they did some amc job.

The main issue that would arise from not using the 3.29 ratio would be that your pcm would need to be reprogrammed. The stock GT PCM is set up for 3.29.
