    Hey guys,
So I have a chance to buy a ZZP 1.0 PCM for my car for ~$50. I've got a few questions about installation, etc. It's from a 2000 GTP, so it's the same year as mine, will it need my VIN number written to it? I don't have access to anything to do that (only a Tech II and an MT2500), so that'd probably be a deal breaker. Also, would it ever be worth it on my car? As it sits now I have SSACs, DIY intake, and a Gen V. I've only put about 2-300 miles on it since I put the SSACs on, and I've only seen 0.1* of KR once, right before a downshift. I've read iffy things about ZZP's tune, but pretty much everything says they run circles around the stock tune. So, given the VIN thing works out, would $50 be worth it?

Bump? I'm mainly curious about the VIN needing to be updated or not.

Dont waste your money. You need your vin written to it and ZZP locks their pcms iirc. Save your money and get a real tune

The PCM doesn't care if the VIN is right or not, and neither does the car. The only thing that you need to make sure of is the mods match the tune. If they do, get it, run a case learn with the PCM and enjoy.
Some people like the tunes, some don't. It's hard to go wrong for $50 as long as it's a true reprogrammed PCM.

This is kind of how I feel about it, for $50, what's the worst case scenario? I end up with a spare PCM that I can send off to get a real tune? I can't get a local tune because there is no one local, been there tried that. I started a thread in the regional section awhile ago and the nearest person that had any tuning software was in Kansas City (might have been Reptile, actually). I monitor KR constantly (it's built into my head unit on my stereo so it'll turn my music off and tell me that KR is occurring), so I figure if I get tons of KR, then I'll put the stock PCM back in, and go from there.

On a side note...I know you're not doing tunes any more Reptile, but if you ever want to tune a PCM for old times sake or something of the sort, keep me in mind. I've read nothing but great things about your tunes and I've wanted one for over a year now, lol. I was just flat broke back when you were still doing them.

Ive turned away 2 people coming to me asking for a tune after scanning their zzp tune cars. I cant see anything worth changing in them if they are setup correctly for what you have changed majorly (maf / injectors... stuff like cam exhaust intake porting doesnt count)

Guys I have essentially the same question but I am ordering mine straight from ZZP. I have a 2000 gtp. Only mod is an air intake. Do these 1.0 PCMs actually work? There's no where around me I trust to get an actual tune on my PCM. Also I am looking into bigger fuel injectors. What size would y'all suggest and what fuel pump to go with it?

"Do they work" is somewhat of a loaded question. Yes, they do make good improvements to the stock tune. But it really depends on how deep you plan on modding. For example, if you are running bigger injectors, you will have to have the standard 1.0 PCM tune modified for that. ZZP can do that for you before you order it, just let them know what size you have, and what size you are going to. As for the new pump, are you planning on running more boost? that stock pump is fine for your current setup. Let us know what your mod plans are down the road and that will help determine if you should go with the ZZP canned tune, or wait and go more of a custom tune route. If you were closer to Cincinnati, I'd be happy to help tune it with you however you wanted. Some of the other guys with tuning software may be closer, and may be able to assist.

Just as a heads up, before I would do injectors and a pump, I would highly consider at least a downpipe and maybe a PLOG from ZZP. easy installs and def. help out the breathing abilities of that motor!

Only mods I really plan on is the air intake, new plugs, and ZZP wires. Possibly a straight pipe exhaust as well. Not looking to spend too much money on mods as I am looking into getting a GTO

I believe he means no core charge (you don't have to send him your PCM before/afterwards) and it is not programmed for EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation). You'll want to do a quick google search on how that functions if you aren't familiar. Pretty straight forward.

As for your mods, I would just go with stock heat range plugs and new stock/close to stock wires. With the few mods you're doing, you won't need to deviate much from the stock setup at all in my opinion. For a few hundred $$, you can put in a cheap intake, U-Bend delete/downpipe, plugs/wires, and maybe even a front PLOG. Just helping you figure out your options. Then get it tuned/buy ZZP or Reptile's tune and you're done!

even with a deleted egr pcm you should still pass inspection. if you like, block it off, and put it back on there so it looks like its there if they look under the hood for the egr and other stuff. it will pass a obd2 scan.
