I just completed an L67 swap in my daughters 99 GP. When I bought the engine I got the entire frame, suspension, steering, and PCM out of a wrecked 99 regal. When I installed the engine and trans I hooked up the BBV and extended the MAP wiring, Put the regal pcm in and get no CEL. Put my scan tool on and it says the VIN doesn't match the BCM. I can put the factory PCM back in and start it up but the MAF sensor acts up. Not sure if it's bad or just confused by the boost that it doesn't know what to do with since it runs great at times and ****ty at others. My original plan was to have the VIN changed in the regal PCM and assumed that would work since all the programming is already correct in that PCM. However when I called the guy that normally updates my pcm's when I swap one he told me that if he changed the VIN in the PCM it would work but the BCM would revert the programming back to whatever it should be for the VIN I use, i.e. the l36 tune. This doesn't make since to me, is it correct or is he mistaken? I know I could just have the L67 table put in my factory PCM but haven't found anyone close that can do it. So bottom line, can I just change the vin in the regal pcm or do I just need to send in my factory pcm and get it programmed?
