Thinking of buying it and learning how to tune. I've read some of the stickies on here and I feel it is something I can get into. My question is, can I retune my car an unlimited amount of times without buying more credits? I understand that to tune other cars additional credits may be required, but just want to ensure that I can retune my own car without having to buy more credits.

2 credits per car, thus unlimited amounts of logs/tunes for that given car/vin.

HPT standard version does just about everything you need, most people do not need the Pro, but thats going to be up to you. Its like 500 for the one and 650? for the other. Both come with 8 credits IIRC.

If you unlock just your vin (2 credits) then yes you can tune your car an unlimited number of times.
If you unlock the year and model of your car (01 Grand Prix) then you can tune all 01 GP's unlimited number of times.

You can scan nearly any car with an OBD II port as much as you want.

Pro allows you to scan without a laptop in the car. It allows you to log additional inputs without rigging it up through things like the EGR or AC wiring.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

I would look into DHP first.
HPT doesn't focus on 3800 updates anymore. They're working on the ZL1.

DHP has been out of business for a number of years at this point with the only support being from a great group of guys that like the tuner.

HPT did a beta update not long ago that opened up a few more tables. Like you say though..they aren't concentrating on our outdated dying platform as much as the newer ones that make them more money.

Chris..if you'd like to mess with both tuners to get a better feel/understanding, let's get together some day.

That would be cool Bill. And maybe we can grab a bite? Been meaning to catch up, just been very busy these past few months.

    Yeah..no problem.

BTW if you decide you'd like to tune with DHP, just borrow mine. Most of the time it sits in the bag waiting for the dust to be blown off it.

Yeah, I need to tune bad. The car runs fine, however my a/f is in the mid 10's at WOT, which is pretty rich. Timing is only at 14* tops WOT. Can you get as good of a tune with the dhp, compared to hpt?

    I own HPT Pro.
I've tuned with both HPT and DHP, however do not own DHP.
DHP is more sucumb to open sourcing the maps, I believe.
Not to mention you cannot force readiness monitors with the HPT, as you can with DHP.
I'm not familiar with the emission laws in Massachusetts, so I'm not sure on the strictness of your tests or even if you have a test.
Sounds like you have a pretty sweet build going.

Thanks, yeah nothing too serious though.. I'm piecing together an IC as of now, and that will probably be it until the stock 112k mile trans takes a dump.
