I have a 97 gtp whose pcm has the KR built in. Once upon a time it was hopped up, then, sadlly, I took it into GM but forgot to tell them not to reflash it. Thus it is back to stock (what a difference).

The 98 -03 models do not have that anti KR thing.

I have a DHP as well as an Overkill PCM which I believe came off of 98 models that I've acquired over the years.

Has anyone tried to use a hopped up PCM in a 97 model and/or will it work?

    Thanks

    Thanks for the input.

Looks like unless I have access to a tuner, my other option will be to look for a 97 pcm that someone is ditching. I hate the thought of sending out for another pcm from any of the outfits that retune pcms.

Kind of sucks to have a smaller pulley, TOG's, and the Borla exhaust on it and not optimally benefit from them.

Looks like I will have to peddle a couple of pcms in the future or get a newer gtp

    didnt the 97GTP have a 4t60e? i think i remember hearing that....

the later gtp's have a 4t65eHD so no your 98 pcms wont work.

if you were closer i would be able to use my off board to scan your 98+ pcms for you and adapt it to your 97 pcm. and throw in custom tuning. your best bet is to ask around and see if there is anyone local who has a tuner and will tune your car.

How much are you willing to pay for a 97 PCM? I have one in my garage that is an Intense one.

Not sure what it is called, the the '97's do have a sensor of some sort built into the PCM that has to be kept with the vehicle (at least I thought)...

^ yes I believe that's correct. I vaguely remember swapping over my module when I replaced mine.

Thanks to bluegtp91 for posting a picture of the '97 pcm.

It is my understanding that whatever that additional sensor happens to be, it, as you noted is for a '97 model. The two pcm's I have do not have that sensor as they are both pulled from '98 models according to the sellers, thus my query.

From what I can tell, while there is plenty of compatibility and interchangeability of plenty of items on the 97-03 models, however, in the case of the '97 pcm, this is one area that lacks compatibility.

My goal was to be sure about it, and the postings confirm my suspicion.

    Appreciate the help.

Don't feel bad... 97 was a bastard year for alot of cars... The Camaro/TA had issues with the PCMS in 97 as well, 99+ was when they got the bugs worked out for most of the "performance" line-up.

My 96 DOHC had that same opening and a removalbe chip under it. I never had to swap this when I went to a diff 96 PCM. So as long as you find another 97 you will be good. Like said you can get a vendor to burn you one or if someone is local thy can tune your current 97 PCM. What are you looking to spend? Maybe I can cut you a deal?
