So I've run out of credits for my HPtuners and I've recently bought a new 98 GP. I'm wondering, I have a tune unlocked for the same year GP that I used to own but have sold. How sensitive are the cars to a pcm with a different VIN? My question is if I do a full write with the tune from the other 98 gp to this 98 gp so I can tune with my hpt, will it bork anything up? I would try it if I had a spare PCM but I don't have a spare handy right now to test it out.

It could be done without an issue, but you still must spend the 100 bucks to even unlock the one PCM so you can put that tune on it.

Well yes, credits are linked to the tune.

But what I read is that you have a tune from another 98 car but not that PCM and you want to write the tune that was on the older car to this new 98 car. Which you can do, or just copy stuff over but to even do that you still have to unlock this current cars PCM for editing. Thus needing you to still spend 2 credits worth aka 100 bucks so you can tune this vehicle.

That is the biggest bunch of horse****, they already charge you $500 for the damn tuner why the hell do they need to charge you to use something that you already spent that much money on?

When you buy it new, they do give you 8 credits to start with. So it's like 400 bucks worth of credits right there.

Thats why it's great if you only have like 3 personalcars and wont do anything else. But they do make it nice where you can buy a entire year for a vehicle and tune an unlimited amount of vehicle with that year. Thats far better for tuning shops.

I might have a spare pcm in my attic from a parts car. I'm going to attempt it anyway in the next day or two and see what happens

    Try what?

HPT's credit system is very specific, you pay to unlock that single vehicle (pcm) or you can also pay to unlock that YEAR... If you're going to pay to unlock the second VIN for that same YEAR you're close to paying the amount needed to have unlimited for that YEAR, so, you could unlock the year and stockpile some pcm's for that YEAR, but there's nothing to play with, or get around the system. It's simple, they've designed software to reprogram certain functions in the pcm and you'll have to pay them to be able to do it. Lol... You gotta pay if you wanna play!

It makes perfect sense, which is why I unlock the year on any 3800 car that I tune. Yes.... I literally take additional money out of my pocket to unlock a year for a single car. Next car is cheaper than unlocking a year in steps. If you unlock in steps, it'll cost you more.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.
