A tech 2 is just an expensive device that dealers and a few shops have.

If your box tune is unlocked, you should be able to access it.

You need to get the correct OSID for your year car and do a Full write on the pcm

The HP tuner does this. Look in HP's repository for your correct osid

You take the tune with your matching OSID change the Vin on it to yours and do a rewrite to your pcm

Okay, I'll break it down. Find someones tune for the same year car as yours(check HP's repository on there site) Take that tune. Change the Vin to match your cars vin on the tune, Go to your car plug in the tuner and do a full rewrite, It will then make you use the credits at that piont. Since its your vin and matching OSID it will be fine. Change the tune as needed. You could even save the ZZP tune or what ever you currently have and paste over the table to the new found tune after you have done the first flash

No offense, but If you can't do that, you probably shouldn't be messing with your tune.

Ok.. lemme help out here. Because what's going on isn't going to be second nature to a new guy with the tuner.

HPT validates that the operating software version (OSID) on the pcm matches a valid entry with one that was used on the year/model aka vin matched. There's a GM website (can find at HPT) that you can check if you can get the OSID off the pcm.

DHP does not validate year/OSID/vin at all and let's you do anything you want.

ZZP.. one of the big fails by them in my eyes is that they will write a different year OSID with DHP to a pcm. Say you have a 2001 GTP, they might write 1999 software to your pcm. Well the OSID is for a 99 and your vin is an 01...MISMATCH and HPT see's that and says no go. ZZFail pooched ya again.

If you need a stock bin, I have many in a repository over at a site I run. (Nick...when we getting that up and running here?) BonnevillePRO.com • View forum - Tuning
Pull down a bin for your year/model and then load that will a full write to the pcm. Once it's done, change the vin number from the flash menu and it should be all set for you to be able to tune. Only problem you might encounter is since you don't have the offending OSID year licensed you might not be able to overwrite. HPT also requires that whatever is on the pcm is unlocked as well as what you are trying to write is also unlocked. It's kinda a pain, but if you license an 01 then 01 should be the pcm you use.

That's the part where I use a DHP to program a say 99 pcm to an 01 software so that my HPT will see and be happy that I'm writing an 01 bin to an exiisting 01 OSID pcm.

    Does that make sense?

Bill/Chris were probably suggesting you get a reflash from a dealer of your car's stock programming.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

You did it right. However if you hadn't it would make sense as to why the vin wouldn't go for you. You should be able to write the new bin, then go back and change the vin.
