Re: Jerry's Tuner Notebook -> Wikified
When following your directions in the VE tune, I noticed something
I opened up a HPT scan and exported data in .csv file
I exported my current MAF table in .txt file and made changes. I could then, using eddies, export back to .txt
HOWEVER
after I made exported changes made to VE, the only option in eddies is .csv file
I cannot load a csv file back into HPT table , only txt
what other options do we have?
Thanks
Re: Jerry's Tuner Notebook -> Wikified
Using PT, I use an Excel workbook. I would give it to you, but...uh...my copy's corrupted. I'm looking for a fresh copy now. When I DO find it, I promise to fight my goldfish-like memory and try to remember to send you the link or email a copy to you or SOMETHING. Again, I've been told to use it for PT, not sure if it'd work with HPT.
Re: Jerry's Tuner Notebook -> Wikified
No worries, sorry that I can't be of help to ya.
Re: Jerry's Tuner Notebook -> Wikified
You guys are going to get a chuckle at what tools I use now and how I work...
I basically use 3 programs...
- HPTuners
- Eddie's TinyTuner
- the old original PowrTuner
The ONLY things that I use the HPT program for is to scan and to flash the PCM with... thats it, thats all.
I start from a standard BIN that the PT uses and do all the prep work on the file there (I have many basic sections exported that make preparing my bin faster ny using the drag and drop techniques that the PT software can do). I then make a ton of additional changes and then using TinyTuner, work in there with the tables that are available just in there, export this file to a BIN, and then because HPT can use BIN files (the same kind that either TinyTUner or the PT can output), I use that file to flash the file to the PCM.
However, if one day the HPT stops supporting BIN files, you are screwed. Also, if you did not start from a BIN file... you are again screwed (because the HPT format can only be used by the HPT format, not the TinyTuner, nor the PT program).
It is possible but quite difficult to extract a BIN file from the HPT file... I don't know how to do it, and know of only 1 person that does... and I totally avoid this by starting from a BIN file from the first step.
I use this method as it gives me the maximum flexibility and lets me use all tables possible.. but if you thought tuning with 1 application was complex, wait till you try to juggle 3... lol
As far as the functionality of the TinyTuner is concerned, just go to clubgp.com, to the PCM tuning section and ask Eddie there directly, he still visits that forum now and then and may have a different work-around there for you.
Re: Jerry's Tuner Notebook -> Wikified
Because of how close everything is to our house and how busy things tend to get, it's taking forEVER to get these MAF tunes done so I can finally get on to actual tuning. There's no quick AND safe way around it, is there? At WOT, at 94mph (going from 45-107.5mph), I have 8*KR, LTFT said 9.375, STFT reported 0, Spark was 20.5*.
Re: Jerry's Tuner Notebook -> Wikified
My understanding is you need an older version of HPT that will let you save as a BIN file.
As to where someone might acquire that, I'm unawares.
Re: Jerry's Tuner Notebook -> Wikified
I get the .bin from my cars by reading the PCM using PT. Does HPT have that option? The stock .bin can be found at:

Re: Jerry's Tuner Notebook -> Wikified
If you are using a HPT, the best place is to get a BIN from is to have the HPT program read your PCM. It is locked down a lot more than the PT software, and gets very problematic depending on the license you are using. For example, if your license is for your car only, using a bin from another PCM is not going to work as the serial numbers from the 2 PCMs are not the same. If you lived close to someone with a PT, just get them to read out your PCM, you save that file in 20 different physical locations (lol), then you are pretty much good to go.
With the PT, there are a lot less "restrictions", and it is not a problem, however, the scanning abilities of the PT kinda suck and of course, there is no longer any development going on to advance it.
Re: Jerry's Tuner Notebook -> Wikified
Something that we were talking about last night was whether or not PT can edit VIN/Serial Numbers to a bin and then give it to a HPT for upload. I'm about to post on the Club and at the DHP forums. I already have his bin and VIN and SN.
Re: Jerry's Tuner Notebook -> Wikified
It cannot, but if you had a hex editor and knew where to look, it may be possible.
Re: Jerry's Tuner Notebook -> Wikified
Im so glad I came over and found these updated links. Everything over on the DHP forums seems to be broken up or mislinked
Re: Jerry's Tuner Notebook -> Wikified
So The link for Jerry's Turner Notebook takes me to a site and tries to install some spyware etc.....might want to try to fix the link again....

Look through the thread, seems no one is taking care of the WIKI anymore, so no one can fix it. Use the link to the original site that I put back up for you guys.
