There are a couple of megasquirt setups on the 3800 that I've seen floating around. I don't really see the advantage from it unless you are putting the motor in a different car and want a standalone or something completely custom. For not much more you can get a tuner and not have to mess with MS.
What advantage does it offer then? I sure as hell cant think of any and I have been doing motor swaps for 5 years now.I don't really see the advantage from it unless you are putting the motor in a different car
The MegaSquirt will allow you much more control over your tune. It also opens up your world to new ignition systems. It works well with DIS, but if what if you don't like the GM DIS ignition? No problem, pull it out, and install LS1 coil per plug for example.
It also adds a world of other features that you won't get out of the stock computer. Want to remove the MAF to make intake plumbing less complex? No problem. We often see removing a MAF to be worth 3-5 whp alone.
Need to launch hard? Cool, we offer 2 or 3 step launch control and no lift shifting. And boost control. And water injection control. And lots of other features that you won't get out of your stock computer.
Is a standalone like MegaSquirt for everyone? No, probably not. But it does offer you a very low cost way to get complete control over your tune and add cool features that the stock computer won't do for you. We've helped several people MegaSquirt their 3800's.
