Buying a Tuned PCM from ZZP

I've seen that their PCM's are now $125

I'm looking to get one, but not sure when I should do it. I have an '05 Comp G. 100% stock right now. My question is, is it ok to get a PCM tuned for a 3.4" setup while the car is still stock? I'm wondering because I will not be buying all the mods together. $125 seems pretty cheap for a tuned PCM, so I'm thinking I should jump on it.

If you can find a local tuner, I got a stock 06 PCM you can have for cheap.

However, I wouldnt run a can-tune for stuff you don't have on your car yet.

Don't run a ZZP tune your car will hate you. Ask bluegtp91.

Tune for pure stock right now, re-tune after important mods. Install freshly tuned pcm's with pulley drops. That being said, installing a 3.4 tune on a 3.8 pulley will probably skull**** your engine.

ZZP's quality of tune has been suspect in the past, but there are some, like VictorSmalls, that are thrilled with theirs.

Agreed though NA...it is hit and miss...one of my good buddy's had a intercooled '97 GTP and his ran like a raped ape for what it was. I however, had 6 of them...all stuck in prgramming mode...and eventually toasted my engine. Just buy a DHP PCM and never have that issue...get them from 3800Performance.

Stay away from ZZP PCM's? Alrighty Then. That's all I needed to hear. Thanks guys. No local tuner here. I'm in a very rural area. But, I am near Panama City if anyone knows a tuner there. But, I don't think modded GTP's are too common here.

Noticed you're talking about a 3.4 pulley on your 05 Comp G. Just wanted to make sure you're safe and don't put a 3.4 on without supporting mods. A 3.6 on a Gen V supercharger is about equal to a 3.4 on a Gen 3 car. The standard headers, intake, and plugs won't support a 3.4 on your car.

in all reality all off the shelf tunes are hit or miss. one will end up working great on one car while the same pcm will work like crap on another. this is why the make scanners. you still need to tweak your setup so the tune works for you and your car. this is why a custom tune is always the way to go if possible.

i seriously dont know how someone has not started e-tuning yet. they could make boat loads of cash. it would require someone knowing how to tune and sending out BIN files for people. however, the person getting the tune would need a way to flash the tune and log it to send the log back to the tuner so they could tweak it. its literally all the rage with the import cars and anyone that doesnt it makes lots of money doing it.

I love mine. Had problems with other brands in the past, but boxed tunes are hit or miss.

Originally ran a basic bolt on N/A tune from ZZP for years and was very happy with it. Now running a turbo tune and could not be happier.

My ss m90 tune on my car from them was pretty decent. Trims looked good decent timing, had some part throttle KR though. But I was satisfied

Custom tune is best. I bought a PCM off someone that had a DHP tune on it and my car wasn't really happy with it. I'm pretty close to you and if I had a tuner and knew how I'd help you out. I think that there is a guy in PC who does have a tuner and might be able to help you out.

I forgot about that. I guess my setup would be a 3.6" then. Unless I add maybe rockers and an intercooler right? Or do you guys suggest more for a 3.4" on an '05 car.

I tuned a locals 04 CompG with nothing but a downpipe, PEMs, an intake, and a 3.4 as major mods. Had a 180* tstat, Autolite 104s, and some PRJ spark plug wires. I got him running knock free wide band tuned with a decent AFR and acceptable timing.

I can do mail order PCM tuning if anyone is serious . I have an extra Powrtuner I can ship you if you put down a deposit and upon shipping it back you will get your deposit back.

I may go this route. If you're talking about knock free with those few mods, I'd be willing to take a chance with all the mods I have planned. Although, still checking for KR as well.

A 3.4 tune is no different then a 3.8 tune... except a higher part of the MAF table is used at wide open throttle. If I tune someones car good on a 2.8 then they should be able to run any pulley size bigger then that because the lower sections of the MAF table SHOULD be tuned/smooth enough that AFR is essentially not effected.

That being said, an after market PCM/tune off the shelf will run richer then a stock tune and realistically SHOULD be safer since I believe timing is even lowered a bit. Of course you end up with all of the other benefits of the tune as well: fan settings, torque management stuff, rev limiter, speed limiter... and all that ****.
