Their v1.0 PCM's I believe are locked. I dont believe they will retune them like Overkill will. If you dont own a tuner and dont plan on getting one soon, I would think you would be better off with a Overkill Motorsports PCM.

If you want something that is unlocked and you can tune, you will either need to get a tuner (HPT, DHP) or get a ZZP PCM which are unlocked and you can tweak to your hearts content.

I have to see what mine is. I bought mine from DHP through PFYC. When mine shipped it said I have to get a CASE learn after installing. If it was locked would I still be able to do a case learn? If I cant tune the car I am gonna be
BUT speaking of how happy thus far I have been... I loved it the first time I drove the car. I have had it a year. No issues, car is incredible. Feels like a different car. BTW I threw no codes.

Charles said the DHP PCM are not locked. They were all built off of a 98 GTP bin and had something to do with the OSID used. However they were not locked.

i think it used to be that the 1.0 were non-customer tuneable... the 1.5s that came with the tuner were customer tuneable... but i think the format/distribution model has chnged.

...let me see if I can find Charles explanation surrounding the locked myth.

direct quote from Charles Beyer (DHP). There is a longer more descriptive version of this, but I don't have time to find it right now.

depending on what type of car that 1.0 is for, its possible they can write it or not. The myth that is continually regurgitated is that we 'lock' our pcm's. We don't. However, for certain pcm types (99-02 gtp, etc), we use a generic pcm and because of that we modify the OS ID value that is returned. Why ?

Since the pcm code is generic (single file), if you have a 00 and the generic is based on 99 code, its going to confuse the heck out of tuners you buy that license based on model year ....

If you have something that is NOT for a 98-02 grand prix, they are most definitely not 'locked', rather the tuner your are trying to use on it simply doesn't support the osid that we used for the file.

OK this is new territory for me. So I'll ask the stupid question. I bought mine for my 99 GTP. Does this mean someone will have trouble tuning my car? Or better yet, what do I need to do in order to tune my car?

I'm the wrong one to ask. My car showed up as a Monte supercharged with the Powrtuner, whereas with the HPTuners is it what it is.

Let me put it this way:
As the owner of a DHP tuner, I would love to be able to sell my DHP and have enough to go and buy a HPT.

The HPTuners is more money than the DHP PT. They're not making the PT anymore so support will be more difficult. As the owner of both, the only thing I really thought was better onthe DHP was the ability to click and co completely back to stock. However, if you download your stock bin first, that isn't an issue.

The HPTuners only gives you 4 single vehicle license out of the box. Where as the PT you can do almost any 3800. Not a big deal either. HPTuners will allow you to tune GM Dodge Ford and Holdens. PT L67 and L36.

As far as functionality - Scanner and Editor - HPT ftw. The PT was too buggy for me.

Hands down I would say HPT.

I do not do my own tuning though. There are vendors that do way more adjustments in way more tables than I'm willing or have the desire to learn about. Why did I go for the HPT? Because nearly all of said vendors use the HPT. It's a compatibility thing. Plus that blackbox scanning is awesome...it's all I use.

For completeness I should add that a couple of the tuning vendors use both the PT and HPT to custom build their tunes. This allows them to edit tables the other may not have.
