Hey y'all question about the zzp pcm upgrade to run the basic mods like pulley CAI and exhaust... wondering if anyone has done this out here in CA recently and had to pass smog? I know they just passed some new laws last year and zzp said I need to do some research to find out if I can still pass smog even if I keep my stock pcm and just switch them back when the time comes? Wondering if my ECU will still show the smog shop that I've done this change and therefore fail me? Any information very appreciated thanks guys

Maybe this will shed some light on it What California's New ECU Law Means for Tuned Cars
Its all a crock of sh** if you ask me. I guess it all depends on if the tuner zzp uses for their PCMs is CARB certified.

My brothers 03 passed with a top swap and a ZZP tune when he used to own it. You will more than likely be flagged for the CAI and not passing visual.

Hey thanks for the reply and link but I've read through that article a few times already lol, basically the only information I can find on the situation. What I got from it is basically most of us shouldn't be worried, as long as we switch back to carb legal parts and tunes before going for the smog. But there's talk of still failing if they see that you've done a tune in the past, regardless of switching things back to stock beforehand. That's what I'm really worried about, them failing me even though I will switch to stock PCM and intake and whatever else may fail normally...but since the article doesn't really mention it I guess I'm gonna go for it and see what happens lol

Hey thanks for the reply...so your brother recently passed within the last year with the zzp PCM upgrade and full top swap? He didn't even switch back to stock PCM first? That's crazy because I figured I'd fail for sure if I tried to get a smog with the zzp pcm still installed..as for the Cai I'd switch that back to stock before even trying. It's just the tune and there new computer tests or whatever seeing that I've had a tune before ya know
