I went to the drag strip yesterday, it is an 1/8th mile. I thought I would raise the rev limiter so I would stay in 1st gear longer. using hp tuners, I changed the transmission>wot shift speed vs. shift - perf of 1st gear to 60, I raised the rev limit so it wouldn't run out of rpm's, and it still shifted at 50 mph and 6200 rpm like it did before the adjustment. is there a built in maximum that won't let me raise it past 50, or am I just missing something?

my theory is that if the car stays in 1st gear longer and rev's higher than I will have a faster 1/8th mile time.

It's out of gear way before 60 mph, that why it shifts.

Even if you left the shifter in 1st gear it will shift to 2nd gear anyway. It only takes the transmission .200-.250 of a second to shift and it should still be in the power band, you aren't losing much time at all.

just looked at my scan from the track. i shifted at 55 mph at 6200 pretty much.

try changing the normal shift folder too. you dont have a perf shift button so maybe both files need to be changed.

and looking at my bin just now, its set to shift @ 49 mph.

the way i understand the shift works, mph vs rpm is if your less then 75% throttle it will shift at the mph. when wot it will shift at the rpm's.

oh geez 5000 feet, that sucks, im at sea level. i couldnt even spin the tires at the track with that old setup lol.
so scotty with your mods you only did a 14.3? i thought you would be in the 13's. im hoping to be mid to high 14's with my current setup..i got my new pcm with lowered shift points but haven't installed it yet to see if it fixed my issues.

come on guys, 6600 feet, don't sell me short. my house is at like 7000 feet. I tried to get my wife let me buy a set of slicks for racing, she said no. money is tight right now, so I can't argue. plus the track is only open 2 more times this year, so I would only be able to use them twice.

sadly yes, that was the best i got with the 3.2 pulley. i took that off the day after the track, put the 3.4 on and jacked the timing up to 18 wot. it likes it. i need to play with the timing some more and do a few more scans, but the next trip to the track will tell if its faster or not with less boost and more timing. if i get a 13.8 ill be happy. anything faster is gravy lol

ya 13's would be nice, ill need boost for that, gotta wait till this car rots out though lol. then transfer all the mods to a l67 of some kind. 3.69 gears on a l67 will be squirrely lol

sgt 6600 feet, ouch...all i can say lol

i could feel mine slipping a bit, but hooked up pretty good.

how are you launching it? are you on the brake and the gas holding it to the stall speed? see my scan. im at 36% throttle on the line, then got it wot by 17 mph.

torque converter is a 2500 stall. I watch the amber lights, and when the second one lights up I take my foot off the brake and go full throttle on the gas

you drop tire air pressure too? and ease into it more. wot off the line is to much for street tires. i found that out. never thought it would spin, boy was i wrong.

my first run i ran the tires at 32 psi. what i drove there on, i forgot to lower it, but i fixed that by run 2 ( 20 psi) and it spun less, they squealed, but i just kept in it. 3 rd may of had something to do with more rubber on the track, there was a lot of cars running. at least 100 cars bikes and dragsters.

my best 1/8th was holding brake, revving to 3000rpm, it would spin a little and when i would feel the tires starting to grip id floor it.
but im n/a, so take it with a grain of salt lol.

is 20 psi on the highway ok, or would I need to top off the air in the tires?

ive never heard of a track that dont have free air to put air back in the tires.

bring your tire gauge and drop pressure when you get there, do a little burn out if you like, it seemed to help, i didnt smoke em up really, it was more of a cleaning the tires off and warming them up. street tires are a harder compound then a slick, hard hot rubber has no grip.

dont mash it off the line, try about 50% then mash it when it feels like its hooking up.

with that stall speed your even more into the power band of your cam. i bet it dont start to make power till 2500, and your there already at the line.

when I went a couple years back, off the line I went part throttle, then went full throttle, I'm out of practice and apparently forgot how to launch my car.
