I have 1 2003 olds Alero 2.2 180,000 miles. When I received the car from a friend the pedal was low. They stated getting a hose replaced so I figured the system possibly had air in it.

I bleed the brakes at the brake hose at two of the floor wheels because the bleeder screws were rusted and broken off. This did not help at all actually may have made it worse. I have bleed the system numerous times with no resolution. The master cylinder doesn't have an abs module attached, (not where I can see it) not sure if it has some other device. The pedal is firm when the car is not started.. Once started it goes to the floor.

brake booster or hose? I haven't noticed the car running funny or any hissing noises when started coming from the booster area. Not losing in fluid either

any chance the master's res went dry on you when bleeding the brakes? if so you need to bleed the master, then the calipers again.

cracking the brake lines should work, but the bleeders can also be changed, a easy out should get the old one out then thread the new one in.

oh, if bleeding the master and the calipers dont get the pedal back good chance it needs a new master cylinder.

No it didn't go dry , when I bleed the system, I kept checking. But I will bleed the master, first thing and then the wheels and see what happens.

Just bleed the master and the calipers, strange thing when i got to the driver front caliper it didn't release like the other ones. My helper said the brake pedal didn't go to the floor like the previous three wheels.....not sure if that's a indication of anything.

Well i used the brake hose bolt to bleed and some fluid came out but very minimal compared to the rear hose.. Even while having someone pressing on the break it still flowed out as if no force was pushing on it...

After reading around a bit, I have found that this issue is most likely related to changing the front pads, I have no clue why. The only thing I can think of is pushing the piston back into the caliper some how adds air to the system . I have no clue what Or why, it affects the brake pedal.

I have found other posts with the same exact problem but no solution yet.

pushing the piston in will not push air into the system that's impossible.

That was just a hunch.. Maybe a collapsed line, I have no clue. I did find a few other posts with the same issue.

Is their any other things I should do. But no solution Also this car doesn't have abs...

I'd be leaning towards a bad master cylinder.

Yes makes since, I got the car and the pedal wasn't as bad , but I could tell it wasn't right

I changed front pads and it got worse. Reading around about how changing the front pads (pushing in the pistons can flip the seals in the master cylinder) making it go bad.
My buddy owns a JY so I grabbed a used master, but its doing the same exact thing...so only thing now is to go buy a new master and see if that works.

If that doesn't do anything then try new rubber lines

make sure you bleed the mc before you buy a new one.

did you bench bleed that used master then put it on, then re bleed the brakes?
