I disagree. My GTO in stock form is absolutely perfect for daily driving. V8 power and a very comfortable and nice interior.

I drove a cobalt prior to the Grand Prix. Words cannot explain how much I hated it but did enjoy the great mpg.
Some of the responses in this thread really suck.
What else do you expect
I'm not saying those V6 engines aren't great pieces of engineering. They just shouldn't be put into a car that was intended for a V8.
I DD a GP GXP(LS4 V8) and if I drive like a normal person and not mash the gas too much I get 22 mpgs, usually 19-20 if I drive like me though. My wife's 4 cyl HHR only averages about 25-26 with her driving normal. My GTO got 22mpgs on the way back from Dallas(75-80mph)and I get about 19-20 driving back and forth to work. My old 98 GTP got about 120 miles to a tank and was like 10-12MPGs. Point of the story it's not worth saving a few mpgs to be stuck with an anemic 4cyl and if you soup up a V6 to V8 power levels you'll have horrible gas mileage usually.
Anyone else hear the rustang was gonna get a 4 cyl ecoboost engine soon??
This thread is lultastic.
they dont make jack off the tax, its a federal tax. manufacturers do it so they can sell more cars, yes a v6 would be cheaper base price vs a v8 base price, but the tax puts the price even higher.
they all do it, gm ford, dodge. and so on.
i got hit with that tax on both of my trucks, any time theres no mpg rating listed, (cause its so bad) you pay extra.
New Camaro V6s have what, 312 HP? Slightly higher than a 305HP 4th gen Z28.
Right...granted...in a much heavier and ugly car as well...
Just look at the new V6 Mustang as a solid example vs. the Camaro.
TQ #'s are down quite a bit thought obviously...larger displacement pushrod motor compared to a DOHC motor with two less cylinders and nearly 2 liters less...
i just thought id add, putting a 6 clynder engine in cars has always been an option, a girl i dated in HS, her dad drove a 67 RS camaro, it had a straight 6 in it.
my friends uncles 55 belair, it also had a straight 6 in it.
putting under powered engines in what should be a cool car is nothing new.
3.8L Fords are huge pieces of Sh!t. /discussion.
3.8 Fords eat haed gaskets like 3.8 GM's eat LIMs
This whole debate is a matter of personal preference. I've owned cars with v8s v6s straight 6s and 4cyl. they all had their ups and downs, but my favorite to date was a 92 grand marquis that was a complete pos. had a v8 and rwd.. and gravel roads were my new best friend.
my aunt had a 98 grand marquis it has 5.0 in it, posi rear and it lit the tires up on dry ground. not bad for a ford lol you can say its a mercury, but its still a ford.
lol yeah they're good for the brake stand deluxe thats for sure
inline 6 > v6 for a rwd car imo
