I can't exactly remember as it was 4 years ago but I remember it being "the switch that turned radio and lights off when driver door opened." Im pretty sure the lock/unlock function still worked. So maybe it is a totally seperate switch. My bf bought it off me and I gave him all the dealer receipts with it, so I don't have them with me to check.

Oh and another thing, recently it lost all interior light functions....turned out being a crimped wire somewhere in the roof or door pillars. Just food for thought, maybe some wire somewhere is the culprit.

I still am not sure if it's a split wire, a switch, or the BCM. I have wires for my tailgate that run underneath the car, but it's tricky to look at them.

Will a split wire from a certain switch effect several other switches throughout my car to go bad, including other multi-function switches? Or would it just effect that certain switch? Most of my switches in my vehicle are shot.

I think the fact I have several switches, including several multi-function switches that are bad, means it is a big chance it is my BCM. Since it all suddenly happened at once, too.

I just need to get this solved so I don't waste money on the wrong part. I just want to get this fixed and over with too!

Ok. My friend found out that it's a common issue. He found out that a surge from the wipers caused my BCM to wipe out. That is why my wipers work on one setting, and my BCM is shot from the surge, causing everything else to stop working. All I have to do is replace the wiper motor and BCM and I SHOULD be good to go!

But he heard that people just replaced the BCM and didn't have a need to get it reprogrammed or anything. Is that true? Can I just simply replace this stuff on my own then?

I was just to reply from your battery question. A weak battery will cause several low device voltage codes but most importantly its not heathly to continously jump a vehicle. Power surges will damage modules.. cant say ive ever heard of wipers causing an issue and there are no TSB on that.. but any surge from a jump can damage the bcm easily.

I couldnt count bow many times ive had to replace one or more modules when someone has reversed polarity when jumping..

A new bcm will need to be programmed by a tech2 and a used bcm will not work.

Simply plugging in a bcm will surely cause option configuration errors.

    Good luck

It only had to be jumped that once. Since nothing gets turned off once I open my door it happend to drain my battery. I read cases where people have plugged in BCMs from junkyards and it works fine. This is what confuses me, that I am hearing multiple things. Of course you seem to know your stuff more.

There is a TSB on it. I guess it's classified as a visiblity issue.
    TSB Reference: #070843006

It makes sense because my windowsheild wiper only works on the highest fuction no matter the setting. It also randomly freezes, and when I turn them off they stop where they are, and do NOT return back down. To me that sounds like something is wrong with the wiper motor. And it makes sense that it sent a surge to my bcm, causing it to malfuction, hence just about all of my switches (including several multi-function switches) to stop working.

Do you think I would be safe to replace my wiper motor myself, and have some other auto shop install a new bcm and reprogram it?

I am sure you wont have a problem replacing the wiper motor yourself.

As for the BCM, seems that its pretty much a must to have a shop with a scanner/tech 2 do it.

I am getting even more pissed. The BCM off rockauto costs less than $200, the wiper motor, less than $100..I am sure that autoshops get a sepcial discount, and it should only be about an hour of labor..yet they are telling me it is going to cost around $900. That is Bull**** if you ask me.

Can I just install my BCM myself too, then drive to the shop and have them reprogram it? It would possibly save me hundreds of dollars. Unless that will wreck my new BCM too.

My Torrent is possessed. Me and my friend were outside talking after work, when my Torrent (completely on its own) kept flashing its headlights on and off at us. I pulled my keyfob out and dangled it, showing her that it isn't me doing that! We slowly approach my car, affraid of it. Because of this, my car pretty much killed itself. Thank goodness one of the guys from work was nice enough to help jump it!

Before work I made sure that I turned the radio off, and switched my dome lights off, so it wouldn't happen. I guess that does no good when your car turns things on and off itself anyways!

I KNEW this thing was a Cyborg..

    Fraschy,

I’m sorry you are experiencing this issue with your vehicle. Has the vehicle been modified? Do the buttons on the FOB stick? All battery connections snug? Any fretting or corrosion of the cables?

No, it was not from any mods, as there are none. And no, it was not the key fob getting stuck. The car was doing it on its own, even when the key fob was out of range. Plus the buttons are not sticky whatsoever. Pretty sure this was my BCM acting up, killing my battery. It is the only thing that makes sense. It's going in on Friday, so we will see for sure then. Can't wait until this thing is done and over with. It has been a BIG pain in the ass.
