As the title says, I have a '97 Olds 88 and I have access to an S/C 3800 from a '00 Regal GS. Donor engine still has the trans attached but, 1st gear is gone. It comes with the engine harness and PCM. I'm curious what it will take to make this engine work in my car? I know the Olds 88's never were supercharged and the stock trans may be weak. However, I would like to put in a Transgo shift kit to accompany the extra horsepower of the S/C engine... Any advice is appreciated!

    Thanks in advance!

The Olds LSS was the charged version of your car.
    http://www.edmunds.com/oldsmobile/ls...eview-5056875/

Very easy to flip the engine in, put in the correct tune and have a charged car. Instead of using the Regal harness or pcm, you should add the boost wiring (2 wires) and change the plug on the map sensor. There's all the wiring changes you'd need.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Thanks for the advice! Will I be able to use the parts off the N/A engine to make this work? Or use parts from the Regal harness? Sorry but, I'm new to the 3800 world and I apologize for all of the questions

if the olds has a 3800 in it already yes use the cars harness.

you'll want a l67 map sensor and its pig tail, cut the old one off and solder the new pig tail on.

you can also wire in a bbv actuator if you like, most dont and just delete the code.

then if your installing a hd tranny like from the regal you can add another wire to the pcm to make the perf shift button work like the gps and regals have.

and that regal 2000 pcm wont work, your 97 has a one year only pcm, its 97 specific.

I'm not sure if the Regal trans will work in my Olds? Plus, it needs a rebuild. 1st gear is out in the Regal trans...

Thanks for the info. I can steal a few aprts off the Regal harness. I'm getting the Engine, trans, PCM and harness. I'll just get an L67 MAP sensor from the local O'Reillys and see if I can get the pigtail with it. If not, I'll cut the pigtail off the Regal harness...

the hd tranny will work if the pcm is tuned for it. the stock tranny you have will work just fine as well. the main difference is the gearing and the hd diff.

oh, and you'll need to swap the flex plate from the na engine to the l67 engine or the torque converter wont bolt up right.

I'l just stick with the stock 4t60e that's in it now. A little taller gearing may not hurt anything either...

I was curious on this also. I'll be sure to swap them out. I learned the hard way last year on a Lesabre...

They never made a tune for a 60e and sc motor so that will be your biggest obstacle..may a 96 riv. Pcm that had a 60e and sc in it but iirc tuning a 97 h body was hard to come by...you would be better off getting a 65ehd, a 97ls wiring harnass and pcm and it will all bolt up with no issues...u also need the whole l67 including injectors and such.

Hmmm... This worries me now. Seems to make sense if I swap the engine, and have the EGR deleted off the PCM...

the 60 is not so good, may as well get a 65 in there.

pretty sure its a option in tiny tuner to make it a 60. id have to find a 88 bin and check tho.

Well, you lost me there... The 4t60e will not hold up to the supercharged engine? The engine is coming with the trans from the GS. Will it be a direct bolt in to my Olds? If it will require fabbing, I will end up fixing the intake and keep driving it... lol, just wanting an S/C engine in my granny car... I'll end up getting a GS this winter either way...

nope. it will likely fail down the road. the 65 blows up too, but ive never heard any good about a 60.

And the 60 was in all the Series I supercharged cars as well. It's interesting to see the commentary that seems W body specific.

A 60 on an SC isn't a worry. The trans is nearly the same as the 65, so longevity when beating it is not usually so long. Sventhesexman did a modded SC engine on a 60 and the only reason he pulled that trans was to go 5 speed. Trans was still good. I helped Oldsman105 swap out a dead 60 in his 96 Riv to a 4T65. It was fairly straight forward. Add 5 wires to the pcm connector, change the trans connector and put in a 97 pcm with the correct vin for the car.

Plus.. anyone with a DHP could put together a 60 trans with an SC motor file. I've done NA motor with HD trans for 97 Bonnevilles etc. My regal was an NA motor, HD trans with SC vin. Scotty knows that thing scoooted cause he used to laugh when he heard it go wot all the time.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

So, a 60 in my Olds will be fine with an S/C engine? Just trying to make sure it will be fine for at least a little while. I plan on getting a Regal GS this winter because I want all of the nice things that my Olds 88 doesn't have...

    bills always right.. lol

you go and buy a regal you might just drive it full time. its a comfy riding car and they all pretty much come loaded with all options. heated seats, both sides, moon roof, power everything, even the pass front seat.

i dont recall ever being in a olds 88 of your year, but the regal is way nicer inside then a gp for damn sure.

regals just kinda lack that sporty look the gp's have. aka the cops dont really look at me in my regal. a cop gave me a hard look last week, but i really think he was admiring the car, all i did was take a right turn while he was stuck at the red light lol

That's awesome! LOL! I bought a Regal GS from my aunt in the early 2000's and I have missed it ever since. I've always loved the look of the Regals, especially with some nice 5 spoke chrome 18" wheels. The Olds gets me from A to B but, I miss the CD player, leather, steering wheel controls, ETC... I have a guy that wants to trade an '01 GS for a Jeep Cherokee that I have. I guess it has a little bit on a rust bubble above the rear tire and the air bag is blown... He said it has never been in an accident and he bought it with the airbag blown as well... Still unsure
