Re: Project LQ4 - FULL Transgo HD2 install
Got some goodies today!

Unfortunately I screwed up. I ordered flexplate bolts instead of torque converter bolts. Oh well. For $22, it's not worth sending them back. I'll use em.
Time to do something about this

This should work
http://i491.photobucket.com/albums/r...psdaxautwp.jpg
Should be plenty of clearance now
http://i491.photobucket.com/albums/r...psnorvvvym.jpg
I've seen more than one person say they've blown this one up at high RPM, but for $17 I'm going to give it a shot. I don't plan to rev the 6.0 to the moon
More cleaning

Apparently, whatever paint GM used on the PS pumps will not stand up to Wal-Mart Super Clean...

Not really in it for looks, but bare metal won't cut it. Gonna need a fresh coat of Krylon tomorrow. Then I can mount the pump, install the pulley and figure out what length I need for a belt.
Re: Project LQ4 - FULL Transgo HD2 install
the donor truck didnt have hydro boost brakes? looking at the p/s pump. it looks like a normal one. or have you plugged up the other lines?
Re: Project LQ4 - FULL Transgo HD2 install
It did have HydroBoost. One feed (brass plug) and two returns. I don't remember how exactly it was plumbed, but I know the high pressure side split somewhere along the way.
Re: Project LQ4 - FULL Transgo HD2 install
Pump painted and installed. New pulley on.

Had to push it a little past flush for belt alignment.

Clean
http://i491.photobucket.com/albums/r...pspxopequ9.jpg
Now I can figure out what belt length I need
http://i491.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps5yr8alcz.jpg
Torque convertor bolts came. Need a 10mm tap to chase the holes. Some of the threads got chewed up when the original bolts backed out.

Re: Project LQ4 - The S10 gets some love
With the motor and trans essentially "done" I decided it was time to dive into the S10
http://i491.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps3kldgmhc.jpg
Found a little pack rat damage
http://i491.photobucket.com/albums/r...pssggczvyf.jpg
I assume that was from pack rats. A couple of the pigtails have been replaced in the harness. A telltale sign of rat damage
My $0 impromptu fix. Just a piece of CPVC slid over and RTV'd in place

Time to get underneath this dirty pig

Re: Project LQ4 - Fleet truck sleeper!
Drain plug reminds me of Jughead from Archie comics.

More progress
http://i491.photobucket.com/albums/r...psgxynfggk.jpg
This thing is a disaster. Sludge all over the engine.
On the plus side... I saw some writing on the side of the trans. "10/28/08/" I'm wondering if it was rebuilt or replaced around that time. When I pulled the driveshaft, the ATF that came out looked bright red and smelled fresh. Hopefully I can find out more when I have it out.
Re: Project LQ4 - The S10 gets some love
might be able to get a little back from the trans if it's in good shape... MOAR MODS! lol
Re: Project LQ4 - The S10 gets some love
funny but the truck looks like its launching, wheels off the ground and blew the hood off lol
that drip pan you got is super boss too, you make that?
Re: Project LQ4 - The S10 gets some love
^ I've had good luck using a hot water tank plastic pan and it came with a few pads
once those ran out , I snagged some puppy pads on clearance at the pet store.

I'm thinking the trans should net about $300. I'll list the motor for $200 and take whatever I get offered. With all the accessories, it should be worth something. Heck, the Sanderson compressor on it's probably worth $50.

No. Wal-mart... $12 Anyone with an older GM vehicle needs at least two!
Re: Project LQ4 - The S10 gets some love
ill have to look for it there. second guess was bakers tray. lucky for me, my w body no longer leaks, but that would have been nice for the water pump job i did the other day. i put two drain pans under it and caught most, not all lol. nothing the hose cant wash away, right?

Get a couple sticks of pipe and make a knocking drift trike instead.
Re: Project LQ4 - The S10 gets some love
Ha! I'm fairly certain that motor doesn't have more that a couple more hours of life left in it.
Re: Project LQ4 - The S10 gets some love
Let it go out in a blaze of glory!

Cash in my hand is glorious!
So, after playing Goldilocks with the serp belt, I finally got one I'll call acceptable.
http://i491.photobucket.com/albums/r...pskattew9o.jpg
Could be a little shorter, but I can take care or that when I replace this one.
http://i491.photobucket.com/albums/r...pso1sqptcx.jpg
I think the only thing left before I can pull the engine is the fuel lines. Front has a lift bracket. Need to find a good point for the back.
