Re: I'm bored. Name this bug
Brings back childhood memories too. I grew up in Indiana and they were thick there every summer. Everyone had those trap bags by their house. The beetles would fly into them by the hundreds, doomed to die in a big squirming pile of stinky beetle mess. Don't know if it was the scent of the trap, or the beetles but I can smell it again just thinking about it. :th_sick1:

Oh then thats what that thing is in my neighbors backyard lol. There were quite a few on a bush in my backyard, and they keep going in my wasp traps. Never seen them before this year. They stink pretty bad when you zap them, that's for sure.

One week out of the year around here we get flying ants everywhere. There are clouds of them in the sky and piles on the sidewalks. Terrible time to even be outside
Re: I'm bored. Name this bug
That's why I like the northern states lol. Not too many swarms of bugs up here.
Re: I'm bored. Name this bug
I haven't ever been too far out of state, I'd say we have enough bugs here. Apparently I haven't seen much because we don't have many compared to some southern states. No thanks, I'll stay here and you guys can keep em.
Re: I'm bored. Name this bug
Cicadas are the worst. If I ever found one in my house, I'd burn the house down. They're basically a mutant fly. I have no problems with flies, but something that big that's an insect should not fly. Gross.
Re: I'm bored. Name this bug
We only hear them in August and rarely see them. They have zebra stripes on their underside.

Our worst bug time, only by the lakes. Fish flys cover everything. But they don't bother me luckily.

Oy that thing is nasty! Imagine if that tail thing was a stinger. Looks like it.
We had swarms of potato bugs in IN too. They look like brown lady bugs. I was roofing during one of the worst summers. They would cover the side of the house like those up there ^^. Worst part is they would get in between the bundles of shingles. Then you would flip the bundle over your shoulder and smash them all over you. And they stunk too. Just like lady bugs. Anyone smell a lady bug? If not I bet you would never guess just how rank a "cute" little bug can be.

I can still hear the crunching noise from having to walk through them so many times.
They did make for some great walleye fishing though.

I dont know what I would do if I walked outside and thats all I saw..........might scream like a girl?
Re: I'm bored. Name this bug
My friend and I used to throw fish flies at each other when we weren't paying attention lol. Grab them by the wings, and they usually land on what you throw them at.
