step and steer is enjoyable, but a 6 speed manual with quite a bit more power its kinda hard to turn down. And they drive rather nice, smooth. Id love a Maxima 6 speed for a daily driver as long as it wasnt city rush hour driving

1.9 rockers downpipe cheapo 200 dollar sd headers and a 3.4 pulley and tune would destroy a maxima....

i have no idea how easy it is to mod a maxima but 300hp from a sc 3800 is pretty damn easy.

you do know he has a n/a 3800 right? so he would have to topswap,tune,headers, fluids etc and he would be close to $1000 just for that.

There are threads and info on how to make those work on maxima.org. The 09+ Max engine has been pushed over 300whp n/a on stock cams. The Alti engine is basically an 09 Max engine but with static exhaust cam timing.

Everything here is spot on.

Coilpacks and MAF sensors are normal maintenance things IMO.

The DEK 00-01 have VIAS (actuator for the intake manifold for more air) and the cup breaks, 3-4 bolts to take it off and pull the rod and just run open IM with dual runners, you lose a little low end but its worth it.

These engines love full 3" exhausts

The 09+ VQ35 is easy to do, Voltagedrop.net sells all the stuff you need to make it plug and play.

Not all burned oil, I think they figured out eventually that it was pre-cats that would fail and deposit **** back in the engine and kill the piston rings.

I've seen guys burn 1qt per 750 miles.

I would do a Maxima again over a GP or even a Saab (except a viggen or 08-09 9-3 Aero FWD).

The stuff they've got, doesn't even touch what a GP does. And with the new panhard bar setup they figured out in the back to get rid of the beam is amazing.

Wow, thanks DrunkDiddler! Are there any more problems to be concerned with? A lot of Maxima's I've found up north here have rust on the rear wheel wells. Any other place they like to rust? And are the piston rings to blame for the oil burn issue, or is it like PCV valve related?

only if you could want into any parts store on the planet and get damn near anything you could ever need for a maxima maybe. and i doubt their aftermarket is as cheap as the 3800 one. better car prolly. anyone make a decent sc kit for them or is turbo the only way to go? only reason i ask is its going to take boat loads of money for make a na engine quick vs a sc or turbo 3800.

Ok, but you see, you have to mod a Grand Prix just to start competing with the power a Maxima puts out. A 3.8L V6 should put out well beyond 260 horsepower, but instead you get 200 horsepower. Supercharging it should put more than 300 horsepower, but just to barely get over 300, you need a 5.3L. Once you start modding a Maxima, nothing will touch it.

Pretty sure it is both, some are lucky to catch the PCV system and do a catch can setup, but 9 times out of 10 it was piston rings...just like the QR25 guys with the Pre-cats.

Yeah I've seen the rear wheel well rust too, the 5th gens just didn't stand the test of time as well as the 4th gens did. You should see the class action lawsuit the Altima guys got going, the floor pans are rusting right out of the car and some of them aren't even 10 years old yet. I30's and I35's stood up to rust a little better from what I've seen.

My brother's 2006 Altima has a wet looking spot under the carpet on the passenger side. Based on what you said and what he's read, it sounds like the floor is rusting out from underneath! Damn that sucks.

Stop being so serious people, clearly it can't be the fastest thing on the road and stop acting like big keyboard tough guys here.

It will be quick and fun and most family sedans of the same price range and year range will not be able to compete with it.

clearly you have no idea the difference in torque a supercharged 3800 makes vs your precious vq........ lol ohhh god how i wish i had a go pro stuck to the back bumper of my car when countless 350z's and 370z's disappeared rather quickly from sight behind me haha.

ohh and a hint the srt chargers with the 6.1s are faster than both the 350z and 370z so why dont you take a look in the race/kilks section at the as$ ripping i handed one out in wash dc. lol said srt8 charger owner cried to jayroca another member on here that video'd the race claiming i must have sprayed him.....

the thought of making a maxima quicker for less money with easier to find parts than any w body makes me laugh....

im done here have fun with your maxipad..... please buy a white one.......... haha!
