Had new tires installed at Walmart yesterday that I special ordered. They installed them but when everything was finished they said their mechanic stripped two lug nuts/bolts because he didn't seat the lug nuts correctly. To myself I was saying "are you sh!++ing me" then i said "its alright" because I'm a nice guy. They said you can go to another auto shop and get the stripped lugs fixed and bring us back the receipt and we will reimburse you. So I did, it cost $207 to get those lugs replaced. I went back to walmart and gave them the receipt and they reimbursed me. One of the store managers said we came close to not reimbursing you because we would have needed a quote to get it done at the cheapest place, but since it was under a specific dollar amount for the settlement/claim etc. it was ok.

Luckily everything was taken care of and i now have some good tires on. (General Altimax RT43 pretty quiet tire compared to the junk i had on it before). The downside was that I spent most of my saturday in walmart, Dont nobody want that!

Moral of the story is, Walmart has careless mechanics and i was almost stuck with an extra $207 bill.

WOW. That's good to know but knowing walmart is a cheap ass place, I never would've taken my car there but it's a good thing they reimbursed you

Every chain or independent garage can have bad apples. Your one bad technician does not mean that all of their technicians are idiots. And I highly doubt that Walmart has a "strip the bolts" policy.

You can also get hosed at an independent mechanic too. And the small shops generally won't have the financial wherewithal to reimburse you ("just call our insurance company").

Everyone makes mistakes, and idiots can be found anywhere.

I have had no less than 4 sets of 4 tires put on multiple cars at walmart, and I've never had an issue. And they reimbursed you so really.. no big deal.
Just had a set of RT43's put on my girlfriends Cruze. They are awesome.

Well also a guy I work with said that going to walmart to get stuff done on your car wont be a good idea. he's had problems with them too at other walmarts. Atleast I got my tires that I wanted on and wasn't stuck with paying the $207 for the repair.

Their labor rate was $160 and hour. They said it would probably take little over an hour to replace the two, but it was done in less than an hour because they only charged $145 for labor, $23 for the lugs nuts, and $16 for the studs. I know they need to mark up the price and make money but dang. The GM dealer in town I think has a labor rate of $110 and hour.

When the labor requires you to remove the brake caliper and rotor, he didn't really get hosed on the cost to remove and replace the studs. I'm sure they charged you 30 bucks for 2 studs and nuts when they cost them under 5 bucks, how they make money.

Think about it from a business aspect, they need to make money and everything has a labor rate. Be thankful you didnt get charged a dealership price, likely would have been more.

Is the labor rate $100 an hour? To remove a caliper and hub should take like 10-20 min tops.

Yup WalMart sucks, well some. I got some bad work done at Wally world and got another WalMart to fix it. Improper balancing and overfilled my tires. Life balance and rotation. The good WalMart even put the plastic seat cover in there. Can't pass up WalMart deals though.
This is where I'd put my mods, if I had any.

LOL I work at Nissan an our door rate is 99.95/hr gm is 110/hr, and like it was previously mentioned, it isn't charged by how fast it can get done, most companies use Mitchell on demand for quoting.
