well since i found out how rusted out the bottom of my grand prix really is and how bad my strut towers are im selling it, now i dont know what to buy. id like to buy another gp or a monte but im starting to think theyre all just money pits, i put a lot of money into the gp, im just looking for opinions really, i just need something reliable that wont give me something new to fix every other week. any opinions or suggestions? i guess this was more of a rant lol

Anything over 7-8 years old here in the salt belt is going to rust. Buy something from down south and keep the gp for the winter until it rusts through on you.

It's hard to recommend a car if you don't provide a budget.

My 08 grand prix has been pretty good. A main engine seal, some driver seat motor issues and a couple wheel bearings were taken care of under warranty but other than that it has been fairly maintenance free. I've never had a check engine light or and electronic issues since I've owned it and I'm at 95k; I do have some steering items wearing out but that is expected at my mileage. I think the 3800 series 3 is a win.

Anything with the 3800 ftw... Btw, buying another used car is just buying someone else's problems... Why not just keep your car, stack some bread, and once it finally dies, grab something alot newer with low miles... A 07-08 GP possibly...

Yeah I know but since im in high school i dont make a whole lot lol so i dont really get to save much anyhow, so i figured id just sell it and buy something with a 3800 for around 2500-3000 thats alot cleaner, i definitely like my car but its just a money pit, theres alot more to fix that i dont really want to deal with anyhow

Anything you buy for that price will have issues. Possibly bigger issues than your current ride...

    Where are you in Michigan?
    GTp 1999 grand prix gtp
    GTp 1999 grand prix gtp

This one could be talked down a little bit..
2002 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP! Low Miles, Must See! $4000 obo
1999 Grand Prix GTP TRADE for mustang gt

This is what I would go after
2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP Daytona 500

Pull the bumper on it and start it on fire....
    1999 GRAND PRIX GTP CUSTOM!!!

Idk where you are in Michigan but that is from looking through only HALF of the gtp's in detroit. There are cars out there you just have to look.

Just make sure that if you look at any them to check out the rockers and towers (which I assume that you will lol) and check for any leaks on the engine (LIM gaskets, oil pan (which are a pain to do), water pump, etc) also check the suspension components to the best of your abilities since these cars like to break the sway bars. General rule of thumb for me with these cars is that if they shift funny or shift hard then just walk away unless you can swap a trans. Also check the lower motor mount as well as it more than likely will be destroyed and they are a pain to change (they dont take to long but they are a pain in the butt sometimes).

All of the above bullet points are great ways to talk sellers down on their prices (especially if they did not know that there was an issue there to begin with). Some sellers will say that they "factored that into the pricing already" so make sure you ask about any other known issues before you start pointing out flaws, that way you really got them in the palm of your hand.

I'm sure if anyone else has any more advice they will chip in later on.

    Happy hunting!

Does it have a 3800 in it? I tend to stay away from the 3400s and 3100s but other members may disagree with me on that.

Wow my gtp as 164k , Iroc has 161k, and my intrepid had 64k when I got it (it then blew up at 68k and had a motor with 135k put in it after, its now running as terrible as ever with 79k on the body).

With these 3800 motors I tend to stay away from those 160k and up (however as long as its well cared for the car will be fine long after that).
