So as some of you may know my car got Tboned recently accelerating my need to buy a new car, I have my sights set on a really smoking deal on a 2013 Charger RT Max fully loaded with less then 5k miles on it for 23k. Blue books for 35k, issue is it has a cloud on title. Previous owner had it stolen and reported it as a total loss and then the insurance company recovered it but has a technically "Salvaged title"

So my question, what are the issues I can expect with licensing and insurance with something like this. This is a cash deal situation so I want to know what im getting into. Any insight would be mucho appreciated guys thanks! I really want this deal and im ready to move on it tomorrow if things seem straight forward.

Oh and did the background check no history of accidents and only one owner if that helps!

Most banks will not give you a vehicle loan on a salvage title.

When you go to resell, unless the title is clean (Non-prior salvage) expect half of book or less.

I would avoid the car all together and keep looking.

Well im planning on buying it cash, and the idea would be to keep it well forever. Im the kind of guy that if I could keep a car I will for as long as possible I will. So long as it does not get into a wreak, and that is what im thnking about. Im sure I could insure it for whatever dollar amount I want correct?

The insurance company usually determines the amount of coverage they will give based off of bluebook and title condition.

How was it a theft recovery with no information in regards to it on the background? Sounds like shady dealing on someones part.

The car company that is selling it picked it up from a insurance auction im thinking. I have the autocheck report and it seems to add up but I dont really know how to read those. This is what the ad is saying...

What you can't see in the photos is that this Dodge was purchased by us from an insurance company. It was a recovered theft that was found with no damage to the car. Needless to say everything is working perfectly and the car runs great.

In a nutshell; what you have here is a very Fully Loaded Charger R/T Max that is discounted only for it's history.

This Charger comes with IL Salvage title. We can obtain a rebuilt/reconstructed title for your convenience.

I found it online here: http://www.ridesafely.com/Inventory....dodge&mk=DODGE

Look at the photo of the shifter area. The panel was lifted, so you may have issues with the linkage or wiring later in that area. It looks like a lower facia or skid plate is sitting under the car. The engine cover is crooked and it looks like the oil cap is gone, leaving the engine open to all the dirt floating around that yard.

The sample autocheck on that page shows 8 entries, but you have to pay to see them. In my opinion carfax is more accurate.

They're usually pretty straight forward. Its probably just going to say it was a total loss due to theft though. They usually don't elaborate on the damage.

On March 4th 2013 the vehicle was reported as a total loss caused by theft.
It was recovered May 23rd 2013.
It was given a salvage title June 3rd 2013.

Here's my take on what I see there: Basically a theif had the car for about 3 months, and what they did with or to the car in that timeframe is unknown. With how few miles are on the car, it wouldn't surprise me if it was taken from a dealers lot and beat on for those 3,9xx miles that were on it when it was recovered. That would be during the break in period, which down the line could cause premature engine and transmission failure.

Here's a fun fact (and deal breaker):

    What Voids Your Entire Warranty?

Salvage title: If your car was in a severe accident and was given a salvage title or declared a total loss, your entire warranty is voided. Unknowingly buying a salvaged car isn't an issue with certified pre-owned vehicles, but keep this in mind if you are looking to purchase a late-model used car from a private party or independent used car lot. If you are unsure about a car's past, we suggest getting a vehicle history report.

Not busting your chops.. just found it funny you were recently t boned and totalled out and you don't forsee that this new car might end up in a wreck.

There's too many bad drivers/accidents to assume you'll have the car long term w/o it being in an accident.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Move on...nothing to see here...too much potential for things to go horribly wrong with a car that your insurance company will hate for multiple reasons...

    This.

Even though you tend to keep your cars for awhile. It doesn't take much for it to become a money pit or some asshat to smack right into you and bam it's a total loss and then dealing with insurance to cut a check.

Offer 10k and then walk away lol. They accept cool. Otherwise you would be happier elsewhere with something that isn't such a sketchy deal.

Ok good to know guys, I have seen this same situation with a 07 SRT8 that had super low miles. Same deal salvaged title from theft and was a blow out for like 17k I kicked myself for not picking it up and seeing the new model with every option I want makes me really interested. Im going to call the dealer fish around a bit and see what the word is on there end.

Do yourself one better... call the insurance company you use. Explain the title/car situation and ask, what they would cover, what insurance they'd offer you and if the cost would be dramatically different from a car with a clean title.

Yup making that call this morning, I called and talked to the dealer just now. His company does these salvage deals a lot. He says every system works, they check every feature. The reason why the center console was pried open was because when they recover the vehicle they had no keys, so in order to **** it into neutral they had to manually do that. Im sure that could or could not be an issue in itself but at least based on what I have been verbally told and as the ad states the car is in perfect working condition and in excellent condition as well. Im gonna talk to my insurance and see what they say and move forward from there.

Now I know a dealer will tell me anything to sell a car but if the ad states and its being said verbally I have to at least assume its somewhat true. So im considering this deal. I appreciate all your guys feed back keep em coming if you have more.
