Works for now. You get the cad file nothing more. Only works on a very high end 3d printer so far. Enjoy

It's the cad file for the 3d printed gun that is made entirely from plastic except the firing pin

this is what has been on their site since they got the take down notice

This file has been removed from public access at the request of the US Department of Defense Trade Controls. Until further notice, the United States government claims control of the information.

please post the link to where you found the files

Interesting reads... But soon it will be illegal to even read the plans! It's all nuts as the U.S. is the LARGEST military budget in the world. 3/4 of a Trillion... That's right, $711,000,000,000.00 in 2011! Some 5x that of the next runner up (China). Número UNO! We are also the #1 weapons exporter in the world at almost $10 Billion the same year.

And yet, the take down notice was because the Dept. of State rationale was about preventing Foreigner's downloading the plans over the Internet?!?! Books or E-Files in the local Library are ok, lolz. Amazing as well that it is NOT illegal to manufacture weapons for your OWN personal use here in the U.S., but heaven forbid that somehow or another that information be made public. Yet, we worry about thatch-hut sand-monkeys miraculously finding 2x their average yearly income to spend on a 3D printer that can make weapons? Have they ever heard of Zip guns? And the fact that the bullets are still metal? geeeze... It's all so hyperbole ridiculous hysteria any more!

Also, not for nothing, if you actually read about the technology, it's not so simple as like printing a damned photo on an inkjet... It takes a lot of trial and error to even get the printers (terrible name choice) to work.

Sandman, the files are out there, and more! Search and you'll find them.

I'm not sure what the uproar is all about. People are acting like you can't find anything illegal online.

I could show you websites for buying drugs, hiring prostitutes, buying / selling stolen goods, etc. The information is always available if you dig deep enough.

That being said, the price of 3d printers will ensure that not everyone can afford one.

Explicit... There's nothing ILLEGAL about those files, nor is there anything illegal about using them or the printers to manufacture a firearm for your own personal use. Sorry to comment, but the implication needed to be addressed. ; )

The State Dept. May have over stepped boundaries, but the site CHOSE to not make an issue about disseminating material that is readily available in printed form. They honored the REQUEST to remove the listings... Also the concept of controlling who can access web sites from originating I.P.'s not within the U.S. is scary and a new precedent. It's called censorship! Funny how the U.S. blasted China and other countries for doing the very same thing (news)...

It's not illegal to make your own gun without a permit as long as it is not fo resale, or you are not prohibited from owning a gun, ie a felon.

Your pretty sure how? What you read in the media? Assumption?

It IS NOT against the law to manufacture a firearm of any caliber for private personal use, period! You cannot though bypass other restrictions, I.e., full automatics, silenced, etc. but you can make and use anything you like. If you live in the land of make believe like NY City, then you cannot POSSESS these firearms without breaking the law, that is different. There is also no requirement to meet federal requirements such as serial numbering the firearm, nor registering, logging or informing anyone about you having it.

    : )

Being pretty sure on the side of a safe assumption is not the same as knowing. There are actually Mill Shops (Machine) that allow you to rent the lathes and such to mill your own receivers, upper, lowers, etc. you can gunsmith, knife smith anything you'd like as long as its for your own personal use! Most people couldn't afford the kilns and or produce temps needed to temper the metals required to handle the pressures needed for a functioning unit that will not fail. The plastics involved in these printers are maybe ok for a shot or two IMO, close range self protection type scenario as they couldn't possibly be accurate without a rifled metal barrel. So then what's this all about? A quite phone call from Executive Privilege tell the Dept. of State to do something... ? Hmmmm... Maybe.

    Who wants a plastic gun?

I'm thinking about machining a 1911 frame out of some billet aluminum.

As stated, it is NOT against the law to make a gun for yourself as a hobby with no intent to sell. Of course also like stated unless other stipulations prevent you from owning a firearm (i.e. Felony). You do not even have to serialize or register this gun. But it is a good idea to serialize your own gun to identify it if stolen or so on.

If you do want to become a firearm manufacture, you have to be licensed and approved by the ATF. It is a little different on say the 80% AR lowers. You have to send the exact product you are selling to the ATF for their approval. This approval basically states the material can no way be used as a firearm at the present state, and issue a letter of sale.

This is what I was talking about. The Gov probably doesn't want plans for a 3D printed gun widespread. Now you can build a whole gun with a single machine and not need a whole factory with many specialized tools. And no I don't hate guns, I just don't think it's a good thing for 3D plans for a gun to be available to any idiot.
