Re: question for mechanics about career
There are countless mechanics out there that are good with theyre hands and can beat the labor rate. There is a great need for technicians that can accuratly diagnose a problem the first time, and to be able to do this for all makes and models and all systems. Usually those technicians also tend to have a smog license and a background knowledge of common problems for a wide variety of motors. Although someone with more ASE'S or ase master tech complimented with a certificate of completion, or degree in automotive technology and especially a smog license has the opportunity to make better money, the background knowledge and accuracy are what can make the difference between lower middle class and well off.
Just my 2 cents lol
Re: question for mechanics about career
i have been there done that, i got me ASE, By the time i was 18, Dropped out when i was 16, got ged when i was 16, then got my degree, First thing i will say is TOOLS! tons of them, if you have the right tool for the job, it makes life nice, also, compression testers, scopes, mirrors, magnets. stools.
winter is not so bad, besides snow.... and it dripping on you.
NOTHING GOES AS PLANNED, the simplest **** causes the biggest problems.
put your tools back everytime, they will be worth more then alot of cars... trust me.
your back will always hurt, you will always stink, and your hands will always be black, unless you wear gloves (And i cant stand that when im useing my hands). i hated working on my cars, and a top swap should not take over 4-6 hours of work! **** will mess with you sooo bad, and if you diagnose something that is wrong, and its not... you look like a dumb ass.
I drive a truck now, and would not change it for the world. i get to see everything end DRIVE! :)
