Im posting this because Im seeing a trend that is not a good one and makes for a lot of extra work for the mods and admins (not that its a work load like a full time job, but just the same).

    1. Posting in the correct areas. I have had to move a LOT of posts lately. Ive been leaving re-directs so people can find the posts and see that it was posted in the incorrect area and I usually note the post that I moved it to further drive the point. Its getting to the point Im going to stop leaving the re-directs and just let people hunt for them. I hate to be that way but each section has information at the top of the page that describes what posts are to put in that particular section.

Please everyone, pay a bit more attention to where you are posting. Stuff happens and moving a post every now and then is to be expected but its getting to the kinda crazy level here.

    2. Post titles. Titling your post 'Help' or 'Could this be it' or any number of other totally non-informative titles doesnt help. Please be descriptive in your titles. This helps the new people coming in (if you havent noticed we are over 2000 members now) and helps with searching which I know everyone uses. I have some ideas as to the actions I'll take to pursuede people to use more descriptive titles but Id rather not have to. Please, it doesnt take that much longer to type 'Help, I have a miss at idle' or something like that.

    3. Thanks Icon. Some of you may have noticed that at the bottom right of each post is a thanks icon that you can click on to tell the person that made the post that that particular information was helpful. This is along the lines of the rep icon, but easier to use. All you have to do is click on it and its done.

Please make use of this so that those that are posting useful stuff get recognition for their time and efforts. If its bad information and it becomes a habitual thing, use the Reputation Icon to post negative feedback about such comments. Use these tools here so, again, that not only will the community know as a whole but also the new people that come who is contributing good information.

I dont want to make this place a drag, but it does need to run smoothly and we all contribute to that. There are many of you that help out the mods and admins police the forum when we miss something and we greatly appreciate that. But if we pay attention to the small things then the bigger stuff kinda falls into place. I have a sticky in the Introduction area that if all new people will read then it goes over some of this stuff and a few other things. I may start ammending my posts to point to that in that section so that hopefully that will help some. I encourage all of you that frequent that area to do the same. I'll sticky this for a few days so that everyone has a chance to read it.

As much as I hate to come across as a jerk, I will no longer leave re-directs for moved posts. Despite my post here for everyone to pay attention to there have been virtually no reduction of the number of posts ending up in the wrong direction.

Please dont PM me asking what happened to your post, if its not where you posted it, you'll have to look for it. If this doesnt help I may start just deleting the posts without notice.

Every section in the forum has a description at the top of the page. If there is a problem with the descriptions that makes it confusing as to where a particular post should be, then that you should make us aware of and we can try to correct that.

can we delete useless posts??? or consolidate them down

Example: New people come on and ask what is everything they should do to their newly aquired car and it's always the same responses, so when I do a search for something that has to do with a minor mod, I get 20 of these threads I have to dig through to find exactly what I'm looking for.

I dunno about that. There would be pros and cons to that. They should be using the search feature to get information like that but perhaps we could or someone could put together something to go in the How To section or something we could sticky. But I doubt that even with that it would alleviate such questions as most dont pay attention to stuff like that.

You dont want to become non-responsive to such questions, but at the same time, they are asked so frequently that anyone that used search for that would find just about anything they wanted to know.

I am with Syn on this one! If people can not read or look over the whole site before posting their post and cant figure out what section is for what? It should not be left up to the Admin to do the favor of leaving a redirect for each misplaced post. People who come to this board or any other should know the rules and locations where to post their particular question.

Granted on the same note, sometimes people make mistakes, and that should be accounted for, but you see time and time again a lot of the same people doing it over and over. Common sense would dictate that eventually everyone would get a clue where things go on this board. It is not like our board is overly complicated or anything. Frankly some people are just to lazy to take the extra 60 seconds to look over the entire board to see where their post might be the most affective.

Just my 2c on that one

It has gotten a LOT better in the last two weeks or so. I may modify the re-direct some to account for, as you say, some people making mistakes.

I see many from new members, which to an extent, I understand. However, it would not hurt to take the time to look over the descriptions and ask yourself does this post belong here?

I will probably amend it to state something along the lines that if you have fewer than say 5 posts, maybe 10 posts, then I will leave a redirect. After that you are on your own and will have to find your post.

What strikes me in this, since stopping the redirects, Ive had no one contact me and ask me where their post was, which indicates to me they kinda know it was in the wrong place and they found it by looking where it should have been to start with.

We'll see. If the trend continues I'll amend it with the post limit for the redirects. If I could set it up where you could get infractions (for the people that have been here a while) for misplaced posts but not incur the points where you would get banned, then I would do that as well and then after so many infractions your posts start to get deleted.

As I said, Im not trying to be a jerk, but it got absolutely insane there for a while moving all the posts and while I dont mind helping out with that from time to time, there comes a point when you got to be held accountable for your actions. Its not like its a lot of work and if its a matter of the descriptions not being clear enough to know, then thats on me but I would need the members of the community to let me know so that issue can be addressed.

Okay, it seems the posts in the wrong sections is taking a turn upward again, and its not just he new people coming in. So, here is how this is going to play out and the rules that I will be using going forward.

1 - 5 Posts: I will move your post to the correct section with a re-direct so that you can find it when you come back.

6 - 10 Posts: I will move your post to the correct section leaving no re-direct and you can hunt for it when you come back.

11+ Posts: I will delete your post and you can try again when you come back.

Again, this is not to be a dick or anything like that, but there is absolutely no reason why the time cannot be taken to ensure you are posting in right area. The introduction area is not for questions, as the title suggests, its to introduce yourself, the Lounge area is not the place for transmission questions and so on.

If this had remained just a once in a while occurrence then it would have been no big deal but it is absolutely getting out of control so I am forced to take measures to try and curb this behavior. You can get mad at me all you want, but I put up a welcome message in the Introduction area for the new people to read so as to try and avoid some of this and few people read it. This post has been here for nearly two weeks now and it has not been read a lot either.

So my philosophy is that if you cant take the time to heed the messages that are there to try and avoid any issues, then dont get mad at me when I take additional action to correct what is wrong.

Not a biggie, its just after you do it a few hundred times it kinda gets old and you arent the only one either. Admittedly, the section descriptions I wish were under the names of the sections so it would be easier to see, but its not like its impossible either.

I did check to see if I could move the descriptions there but I did not see a way to do it. So for now, just take a second to read at the top of the page and make sure that what you are post about will belong there.

In some cases it may be hard to determine and thats okay, I make allowances for that.

After giving this some thought, I came up with another level that I could add in here that may help this matter a bit more and provide a little more 'drive the point home' visual indication you posted in the wrong area. Im not out to punish anyone or tick anyone off, but this trend needs to either be curbed or end all together.

So the current rules will change from this:

1 - 5 Posts: I will move your post to the correct section with a re-direct so that you can find it when you come back.

6 - 10 Posts: I will move your post to the correct section leaving no re-direct and you can hunt for it when you come back.

11+ Posts: I will delete your post and you can try again when you come back.

    To this:

1 - 5 Posts: I will move your post to the correct section with a re-direct so that you can find it when you come back.

6 - 10 Posts: I will move your post to the correct section leaving no re-direct and you can hunt for it when you come back.

11 - 20 Posts: I will lock your post and note it and then you can try again when you come back.

21+ Posts: I will delete your post and you can start over when you come back.

Again, this isnt to tick anyone off, but I have made post after post about this and I have commented misplaced posts until Im blue in the face about it and its had little effect. So in order to keep this trend as minimal as I can, I will implement the above rules effective immediately. If you have any questions regarding this feel free to PM me.

I figure locking the post and making a note in it so that it can be seen will help people, maybe motivate them to check out the forum descriptions before posting and asking if what they are going to post about really belongs where they are going to post it at. As well, it will give even more of a sliding scale to the new people coming in a little more in the way of time to get used to where things go.

Ha Ha...I TOTALLY agree with you Synthetic...I can fully relate to threads going everywhere on DHP forum...it was easy at first then got to be insanely crazy, then died off when Charles walked away, and now seems to be picking back up. If however you ever want another mod here...just let me know...always glad to help if needed

Okay, some new efforts will be underway now.

As has been now, the posting rules that I outlined above, will remain but Ive upped the post count just a bit to give new people a little more time to get acquainted with the forum, but from here on I will be enforcing the rules below pretty strictly, so dont get ticked off if your thread gets deleted.

1 - 10 Posts: I will move your post to the correct section with a re-direct so that you can find it when you come back.

11 - 20 Posts: I will move your post to the correct section leaving no re-direct and you can hunt for it when you come back.

21 - 30 Posts: I will lock your post and note it and then you can try again when you come back.

31+ Posts: I will delete your post and you can start over when you come back.

In addition to this I will be also making an effort to re-title posts to better reflect the information or question contained in the initial post. I wont put any post limits on that aspect of that simply because its not as massive an issue as is the posts being made in the wrong sections, but dont be surprised if your title gets changed. Now if it grows into a larger issue then I'll consider additional steps to bring that more in line with how things should be.

What can you do to help? Glad you asked.

The main thing is just to make sure the titles of your posts reflect its content. That is, if you post up a question wanting to know what would happen if you bumped up your timing to 20* with your current mods, dont title it "What If....". If you do it will get changed. It doesnt take THAT long to type out a good title.

If you title your threads correctly and appropriately it makes the search function work FAR better. Those of you that are still on or did frequent ClubGP know what a poorly functioning search is like and I aim to keep that from happening here. So dont get ticked off or PM me asking why I changed the title and you had a hard time finding your post. Title it well to start with and I'll leave it be.

Now, I know that it seems that this is being a little anal about things and well thats fine because if you want things to run smoothly, then you have to be that way to some extent and well, lets face it, Im just that way.

So pay attention to where you are posting and pay attention to your post titles and everything will run great.

Thanks in advance for your help and cooperation.

    Scotty, Just a suggestion.

Why dont you add a caption under or above the different thread sections? Something that stands out. I think this CAN be done.

Or something in the section itself suck as a sticky explaining what exactly SHOULD be posted in this section.

Sometimes even i dont know exactly where i should be placing a thread and i've been here a while.

Example, how much hp will i have with these new mods?

Well the way i think about it is that could either go in the tech section because it is a technical question or it could go in the 3.8L S/C section because it is an engine question and is the same engine that is in my car.

Now this may be an example that COULD go in either section but you get what im saying.

Take a look at these other forums I belong to. Corral Forums - Powered by vBulletin Notice the captions under the different sections of the forums. If you look at ALL of them, some are very detailed.

I see that you do have captions after you click on the section but in my opinion seeing the problem that you are having I can say that they may be a little vauge also...If they are even noticed,

Then again I Think the main problem is people posting in the compleatly wrong section. Such as engine questions in the apearence section (don't mean to offend anyone if they actually did this.)
