as the title says, do you remember your dreams? or have you ever had a dream like mine.
ever since i was young i have remembered them and it botherss me sometimes, i have to write them down.
here is one i had last night.
I lived in a small town somewhere in the usa, I was 14 at the time and I worked on cars. It had always been in my family that you take care of what you have, so that’s where my repairing ability came in. one day we got a car from a man just down the road a few miles, a 1971 Charger. Boy this car was a beauty, but it wasn’t for us, he wanted it fixed up, cleaned and made beautiful again. So it took a few weeks but once the repair was done I drove it to his house. He wasn’t there at the time, but his daughter was. She was also 14, I had seen her around before but had never really talked with her. But for some reason today her brown hair, in combination with her blue eyes were just so beautiful. She wanted to see what I had done to the car to fix it up, so I showed her how the paint is back to factory shine, the engine is peak performance,, she smiled at me and said her dad is going to love it, and gave me a peck on the cheek.
Then comes freshman year, I knew almost nobody in the school, but I recognized her. (I want to say her name is like Haley or something but I don’t know.) so I sat next to her at a table and we started talking. Everything flew by at that point, we started dating, at 16 she got a car, and I had to fix it and keep it beautiful all the time, I always took care of her. Then I started receiving weird phone calls, all from the same number, they'd ask "this is Kolton, correct?" and I would say "yes" and then they would hang up. At 17 I knew that this was the girl I wanted to spend my life with, that she was the one. Then I turned 18 and it all changed. Those calls all along were from like the government or something like that. A secret group of people with like powers. They came in 3 black cars and said that I would be leaving with them for 6 years. That I had no need to pack anything because everything would be provided. I told them I needed to go see Haley before I left, I wasn't allowed to do that, they told me to write her a letter and they would deliver it for me. In this letter I described how I was taken by an agency and that I had no idea what would happen to me but that I would be gone for 6 years. Finally I told her how when I got back we were finally going to go overseas and visit all of the places she wanted to go, and that we were going to get married in some Italian church far away. And that we would spend the rest of our lives doing whatever we wanted. All she needed to do was wait for me.
I arrived at a warehouse with these people, we went down an elevator to an underground hideout kind of thing. There I sat at a table with all of these official looking people and there was a psychic sitting there and she had mentioned that there is a darkness that could happen to me, that I shouldn’t be granted these powers. I just sat there listening, unsure of what was really going on, then finally one kind looking man described everything to me. That I apparently had been born with some genetic mutation that allows my talents and my brain to be manipulated on a large scale, things like creating fire in my hands, telekinesis and even flying. That this organization was a group of people who have opened up their minds and these abilities have come out, also the pay was great, 500 million dollars for 6 years. I thought of Haley and about that trip, imagining how much more amazing it would be if we had all the financial backing needed. So I did it. I was brought to a laboratory for the injection, the one that opens up the powers. It looked similar to a dentist's office. I sat in the chair and they had an IV with the fluid all set up, with a remote to get the IV going, I was curious why they did that. The doctor set me all up and then they all walked out to get behind the glass, the IV started….. I could feel burning in my veins, the pain was intense. I thought I was going to die. I finally opened my eyes after all of this and I looked around. The room was completely charred, and everything that was on the ground was now mid air. Then I looked in the reflection of the glass. I was completely on fire, bright red flames, while I was floating with the rest of the objects. It was amazing. Then like in typical dream fashion things fly by, I had learned to control it all, overall I had ended up with telekinesis, flying, being on fire (I know there is a better name lol) and the ability to repair things with just a touch. 6 long years had gone by, I don’t look nearly the same my once long hair had now been cut off into a military like style. Various scars had been obtained through battles with various other creatures. But it was time to go home, to see the love of my life.
They drop me off at the family garage, and nothing has changed, except it looks rundown. Apparently my father and brother had given up on cars once I left, they didn’t have the ability I did or something like that. They were all so happy to see me, glad to be back I fixed up the shop, updated the equipment and said we are back in business. It felt so good to be home but it wasn’t where I really wanted to be, I wanted to be back in her arms. I go to her house and see the cars parked outside. The charger was there, in derelict condition. So was her car and another one too. The house looked a little worse for wear. I knocked on the door, and there she was, beautiful as ever. But when she opened the door I noticed she had a ring on her finger, and there was a baby in the background crying. It struck me, I was totally heartbroken. She asked who I was, I must have really looked different. I said I was just a stranger who saw that charger from the road and wanted to fix it up. She said sure so I got to work on it, I didn’t want to use my powers for an instant repair because I knew this would be the last time I would see her, this was my gift to her. Once the sun went down, I knocked on the door again. I was telling her that I would be back tomorrow to continue the work. As the sun rose I was already out working, I had nearly finished it when I was under it and the wrench I needed was still in the toolbox and I really didn’t want to slide out, I used my telekinesis and got it. Then I heard a gasping. I tightened up that final bolt and came out from under the car. There she was, standing there shocked because I got the wrench without touching it. I did a final wipe off the car and looked at her while she looked at me. I saw tears well up in her eyes and she said "Kolton..?" and I nodded. She fell to her knees crying, saying how she was so sorry and she has regretted getting married and having a child every day, how she just didn’t know if I was still alive or not. I just sat there staring at her for a minute, then I grabbed her in my arms, said hold on. Flew away. We were in new york in no time and I showed her around, this agency had some hookups so we were taken by limo everywhere, I told her that I had thought of her every day and that I had saved every penny of the money I got so we could go overseas like she wanted. None of it mattered now and I realized it. She had changed , I had changed, what was there, was gone. I told her I would bring her back home, fix everything for her at the house and then I would leave.
We came back and I started working on her car from high school, crying as I was popping a dent out of it because of the memories that were made in that car, she got that dent while we were coming out of our first movie we went to see, she hit one of those posts. After what had happened to me though, my tears weren't normal, my tears were small flames. The cars were fixed and now I was onto the house, her husband came home and saw me fly onto the roof to repair the shingles and he was more that shocked. He came out with a shotgun and threatened to shoot me, so I flew back down and said that it was fine I wasn’t a freak, I was an old friend of Haley's, but he didn’t buy it, and then something went off in me. I lost the love of my life to this man. I had nothing left. I started burning the fire started in my hands and then something happened, my head set on fire and it actually hurt, all of my orangeish hair was burnt off and replaced with spiky black hair, and all the flames turned from red to black and blue. Finally he lost it, he shot at me, and out of rage I sent every pellet right back at him. He died instantly.
I thought to myself is this what the psychic meant? What happened, why did I do this? Then Haley walked out of the house. She saw what I had done. The fire went out, I collapsed in tears and told her I am sorry and that I would be gone forever. I told her to have the police look for me, that I would rather be dead now. That night while she was crying her eyes out upstairs, I snuck into the baby's room, I left a briefcase with 1 million in it and wrote a note that said "for him" and down on the living room table I left one with 10 million that said "for you" and I saw the heart with our initials around it still on her table. The tears fell, leaving little burn marks around it. I also said on her note, that I will always take care of her, just like I promised her when we were kids. From that point on I was just in the shadows, repairing the cars and the house without her knowledge. Always taking care of her, but never being seen. The aching in my chest never goes away, when I see her smile the pain fades, but even with my ability to repair, I still end up with a broken heart.
