so i took a job in an auto parts store about a month ago. i enjoy laughing at the ricer people who come in for fart cannons and whatnot, and the occasional waterhead who brags about how well engineered Saturns are... but this one takes the cake

i had a guy come in yesterday with a 2000 Subaru Legacy Outback, wanted the cheapest oil we had because he was "blowing it out the tailpipe anyway". He was talking about how this was his third subaru that had oil burning issues and he only has 115k on his and hes been having problems for a while yada yada yada...

I mentioned how i loved my GP, with the solid 3.8L engine that now has 216k. He gave me a chuckle with this remark "yeah.. a GM will run poorly longer than a subuaru will run at all"

I had to bite my tongue, why does he keep buying them if he has such bad luck? Why not spend the money for a good American car rather than get all defeatist about subaru?

I swear by the GM 3800. My grandmother had a 94 Olds 88 that she ran practically dry on coolant, engine running at 240-250 degrees for three years before she took my advice and had it looked at. That car made it to almost 170k even having been abused like that. She went and bought a Buick Regal with the same engine (except a Series II) and couldnt figure out why it had so much more power than the Olds. My grandfather ran nothing but GM, and his favorite was the 3800.

My 04 GP has a couple issues, fuel pump, ps pump, and i hate GM's stock fan settings, i dont care who you are 227 degrees is too high to go before kicking both fans on, but the engine is solid as a freaking rock, shes barely broken in. That guy was right, my car will run poorly for longer than his subaru will run, period.

    oh and one more thing....

24 inch rims with spinners DO NOT go on a freaking Buick Century!!!! (youtube it if you dont believe me... stupidest thing i ever saw)
