Its not really oil its gear lube comes in a grease tube,

Ok guys.. help me out there. I've downloaded the motor manual etc and see how I'd do most of the fluids and check stuff out. Thanks for the tips on that.
I've posted on a boat forum as well, but am trying to locate info about the piston end seals on a Teleflex hydraulic steering system that Sea Ray put on the boat. It's original equipment and the seals appear to have leaked most of the fluid out. So I'm looking for seal part numbers to replace them and instructions how to fill/bleed the steering system. Not sure if it's done at the steering wheel or not. Basic fluid filling tells me it should be. Just not sure how or with what fluid. Steering is working a little when you really spin the wheel...so I know it's just a fluid/seal issue. Unfortunately there's no part number on the steering that would help me search further.
Picked up a battery for the boat yesterday.
Advance Auto's 27DC-2 battery, plus battery box and an exhaust gasket (for 3800) got the order to $100, used discount code and walked out the door for ~$65 with all that loot. Starter now engages and spins over the motor nicely. I'd have been pumping the tank and checked it out if the truck didn't blow a caliper/brake like the other day. Gotta fix the truck to pull the boat out of the garage. That's next on the list.
im going to be honest about the steering, every one i know who's steering got hard to turn. wound up getting all new steering crap, wheel to engine. and its not cheap at all.
last guy i now had this problem spent 800 to fix the steering on a 16 foot boat.
Chuck said he has a boat and it's not cheap Scott.. He's giving me some props.
This steering works, it's low on fluid and the back of the boat right under the pistons had goop that was likely the fluid that leaked out the seals. Now I could take the chance of filling and hoping some seal conditioner brought them back. But it's a perfect time to replace a couple small seals. If I can't find an easy part number...I'll bring the piece to a local hydrauilc place that seemingly fixes anything hydrauilic.
This is about as simple as an axle seal though.
You liked that pun huh? Nice..
Now find me some info on a 1998 sea ray Seville 100 mercury outboard that came with teleflex steering, you know you can google and search better than I can.
sadly its been my experience that when most of the steering crap, craps out, they are for the most part un serviceable, and need to be replaced.
if it turns but is hard to turn. its dead. turns with easy but you can tell its not tight out back on the motor, you may be able to save it.
if you think about how it works, its like a steering box behind the steering wheel.
i miss my old 40 hp with frigging cables turning the engine.
Scott..I looked at it.. it's simple. Two pistons, one on each side of motor, two hoses and one pump aka steering wheel. Turn one way and it pushes into the left while pulling from the right. turn the other way and it's the opposite. It moves super easy, this thing is workable I tell you. My only concern is finding the seals. Once they are done, figure out how to bleed/fill it and presto, it's working.
FWIW the cost breakdown on what I did yesterday.
27DC-2 battery $99.99 (online sale for $84.99)
Battery box $13.99
Exhaust gasket $5.99
Out the door .. $65
Ok, i make no guarantee about accuracy or usefulness of this information.

I need to look further under the wheel. Maybe there's a PN up there. Thanks Jordan.. only downside is I'm working with an 88 or I'd already be picking that up.
