statistically you'd hope that by the time you graduated in an EE program that the economy would be back up. however, if you're graduating now you're kinda screwed.
The Pipe trades have taken care of me pretty well(im a union fire sprinkler fitter) After teh apprenticeship, depending on your location you will make between 30 and 40 bucks an hour PLUS medical, an annuity and a pension..

Welding is one of those careers where you can make 20k a year (bottomeline production) or you can make 120k+ a year (I'm sure you can make ALOT more with underwater welding etc.). Just depends on what you want to do with it.
There will always be a need for welding.
Just to update everyone I ended up choosing to take some classes in the CNC field! Hopefully it goes well, if I don't like it...it's only a year
