Our '06 Grand Prix GT only had one key when we bought it from the dealer last week. We need another key cut. I've seen some keys on eBay for an '06 Grand Prix that have microchips that need to be programmed and cut by a dealer and I've seen others some that don't have a microchip. Is there a way I can tell without calling a dealer whether or not I have a key with a chip? The number on the key is PK3.

    Thanks.

p.s. Still looking for a repair manual.

check with the dealer, here in Mobile it was cheaper to get a key from them than wal mart for a non chipped one

If your key has those numbers on it, then yeah you need a replacement with a chip programmed for your car if you want that key to unlock and start your vehicle.

If you want the spare key for nothing but to unlock your doors with then no, you don't need a chip in it.

P.S. This site is your repair manual. There are people in the Grand Prix community that can help you out much better than any book from the parts store can.
