Pretty fun lil motors. Took one from a sunbird and put it in a z24.
The ones in the Sunbirds were different (1.8L 4-cylinder in '83 - '86, 2.0L '87 - '90). The McLaren Turbo Grand Prix got the standard 3.1L V6 (not the 3100) except with an intercooled turbo set-up in '89 & '90 only. They could definitely benefit dramatically from a bigger turbo than the way inadequate Garrett T-25 they came with from the factory. As for that specific car, description is pretty lacking. All he did was copy/paste the stats for the car from some site. Keep in mind that if the crossover pipe is original, it's 100% guaranteed to be cracked on account of the pathetically designed flex bellows. You'd have to custom make a pipe with a set of at least T304 grade flex bellows. Also, while they were great while they worked, the PowerMaster III ABS system, like all hydraulic ABS systems of that era, are notorious for eventually going out. To rebuild/replace the ABS unit will run you at LEAST $800, unless you want to gather the parts to convert it to standard brakes, which would be dirt cheap.
Unless it's in pretty nice shape, $2800 is a bit steep for it. He's going off the NADA value, which is way overpriced. I remember about 3 years ago, it said a TGP is worth $9k regardless of what I put in for mileage. KBB is more accurate to the market value. But for it to be worth $2800, it would have to have very little wrong with it.
She can only kill ya once
What's more important your wife or a McLaren?
If you answered your wife, hand over your man card and GTFO!
Had access to a junkyard. Wasn't too hard. Was over 10 years ago lol
Anyways if it's all that it's cracked up to be, snag it up. I like unique things and if your like me and have the money and room, doo it!
