    Something came up on the Saab forums a week or two ago about this guy using different oils and seems have to found a good oil for the Saabs to use to prevent Sludge (this is a problem with the Saabs). The before and after shots are remarkable in my book and have come to wonder if it would have the same effect on our motors, our motors are pretty stout and I've always run a 0w-30 mobil 1 oil in my Prix but this might something to consider.

    The oil is on Amazon for $54+shipping for 6 quarts, I think I will give this stuff a try next oil change in the prix

    I don't believe that 3500 miles from a year time is a fair amount to base a sludge study on.

    It does look clean, but he also used amsoil flush every oil change, which probably helped more than the oil itself.

    You should read the thread, the AMSOIL really had nothing to do with it, they determined that the Pennzoil contains Kerosene and that was more the contributor then anything.

    so why buy this expensive oil? can't we all just go pour some kerosene in our oil and stick with what we have?

    Seafoam is just kerosene.

    I just bought the Oil on ebay for $40 for 6 quarts

    Its the none Euro but its the Ultra version and according to the MSDS it says the US oil has the kerosene as well.

    Now I need a MANN filter...thats only $15 a piece :doh:

    Replacing the serpentine belt on the Saab was $300...and I did it myself -.-

    I still don't get it...

    If seafoam is kerosene, and Seafoam breaks down oil very rapidly... This means kerosene will break down oil rapidly, which means your oil will quickly turn to a liquid doing you no good what so ever.

    How is this safe for your engine?

    no no. in the thread the older mechanic story or whatever said add kerosene right before your oil change. thus you wouldn't run with kerosene in the oil for 3k miles or whatever.

    It also states the "cleaning oil" that drunkie mentioned contains kerosene as a cleaning agent.

    Another point, think about what kerosene could do to gaskets.

    hmm. i see your point. adding kerosene at the end would be different from running oil that contained kerosene at all times. hm.

    Well, no that was my point. If the oil contains it from the start, as in from Pennzoil with the "Hyper Cleansing" mess, then it's the very same as thinning the oil out yourself...

    Let me clear this up...Seafoam is kerosene with a oil mix to it, but a much higher concentration of it.

    5-10% is all that is mixed within 1 quart and they do suggest changing oil at 4000 mile intervals instead

    You could do the mix yourself, but that takes testing with trial and error...do you want to buy new motors all the time?

    Well good point.

    I have another question though.

    I see on the Pennzoil site you can get the "Ultra Euro"

    But then on Amazon and on the forum you linked us to, it specifically said the "Euro-L". And then on Amazon it also lists a regular Euro.

    So is there a difference? Do they all have kerosene? And why JUST european engines?

    EDIT: I assume that if it says "Hyper Cleansing Technology" that equates to kerosene.

    But my question still stands. Euro, Euro L... wtf.

    Its Euro "L" here

    As far as whats different from US vs Euro oil, only thing I can figure out is that the Germans (and others) have a higher standard in oil since most of their vehicles will use 6-10 quarts of oil. They love lubrication.

    Does kerosene not evaporate at normal operating temperatures?

    This is an old SB/BB tactic of adding a cup of kerosene to the oil, running the car 15-30 minutes, then changing the oil and filter. It was never proven to do anything good or bad, but it always made them feel like they were doing something...

    Generally you would want to flush the motor with cheap oil when you're done to get all the diesel/kerosene out when you're done.
