I have been looking at a lot of different colleges to go to and I cant make up my mind. I was wondering what you guys thought where some good colleges for high performance mechanics. I was thinking a about going to Wyo Tech but have not heard very good things about them.

ive talked to the wyt guys. they had no idea what they were doing.

getting a job at a local mechanic shop would be a better idea..

I know that there's some sort of NASCAR school in S Carolina I believe that I had a friend from HS go to. He got hired by one of the teams IIRC.

Really the only way to learn is getting dirty on the weekends, that's how I did it.

I've got a Wyo Tech about 1.5 hours from me so I know a few guys who have went there. One went to work for a dealership in Atlanta for a few years, then moved back up here and is working for a local shop.

Another kid was absolutely clueless about how to work on a car before he went to WyoTech. After going there he got a job at a performance shop that builds high horsepower DSM's and the like. He is completely rebuilding his twin turbo Stealth as well.

Its not so much about the school, but the person who went to school. I know people who have degrees in fields that require top educations, but they are still dumb as sh!t. Doesn't mean the school they graduated from sucks.

I always learn better doing teaching myself over having somebody showing me. For that reason I'm not a big fan of some of the tech schools. If you like them and it worked out then good for you.

I went to NIAAC in mason that was a great school. But now they dont have the diagnostics instructor that I had so Im not so sure about it now. Also you will make no money doing high performance work around here.

UNOH in Lima, OH. Pretty good school from what I've heard. They own their own 1/4mile dirt track and race their own cars (plural) during the racing months and even do drag cars and I've heard rumors of them getting in on a few NASCAR events. Plus, it's really close to me lol.

I went to porter and chester (local tech school) and for the $20k I should have just bought a roller and throw every aftermarket part I could find for it. If you're trying to make a career out of it, go to a school like Wyo or UTI, if not save your money imho and learn to work on your own car or help a buddie who is more exprienced and learn from him.

Look into it, I've heard it's a nice place. I've been past it plenty of times and in the buildings a few times....I'd consider it to be pretty nice. University of Northwestern Ohio

do not go to UNOH! i went there and it was way too expensive. yeah you learn a lot but financial aid wont even cover your class for 6 weeks let alone the $400 book fees every 6 weeks. and believe me lima ohio is a s**t hole.
