overclock it. im betting the phenom is causing the freezes, 2.6 aint sh1t.

    clock speed means nothing anymore.

As soon as the athlon XP's came out clock speed became an apples to oranges issue.

i do think that clock speed does matter but only until 3.4 ghz, after that having more cores are better then more clock speed. since i have only a phenom II 945 @ 3.0 ghz, i got a really good cpu heatsink and fan, and properly overclocked to 3.5ghz with no voltage increase, and running BF3 it only gets to 45 degress celsius and idle 26 degrees. matt is right though you should be ok, if you had only 3 cores at that clock speed i would worry. here is a good link Battlefield 3 Benchmark - BenchmarK3D

downoad core temp, and let that watch your cpu temps while playing bf3, you dont want your cpu getting over 60 deg celsius which my phemon cpu loved to do before i got new heat sink and fan(i was 64-66 celsius). stock heatsink and fan are horrible for cooling.

Straight up: does the game thread? If so, more cores = win.

I was at 30-45 fps on any setting from medium to low with a core 2 duo with my GTX 460.

Went to a 2500K and now I'm on high with 40-50 fps.

Deus Ex Human revolution was another game that ran best on a quad core.

Oh im agreeing with you matt, more cores= win. what i was trying to say was that if you have 4 cores or under, that you could overclock but there isnt much sense overlocking past 3.4-3.6 ghz.
i just got done overclocking my ati 6870, so my phenom II 945 @ 3.5 ghz and ati 6870 overclocked im between 40-45 fps average. settings are all on ultra,1080p and 2xaa. im very happy.

I forgot that my PSU was 450 watts only. I tested it with a cheap generic 500watt PSU connected only to the GPU and it ran for about an hour at 1080p on ultra settings without freezing, then I switched to 720p and it froze. I'm getting a coolermaster PSU later from a friend It's between 500 and 600 watts.

I would go with 600 watt one, and only if was one that can put out continual 600 watts, not 600 watts peak..

ok i've got the 600w PSU in, with that thing and the new GPU looks like I won't need to turn on the heat this winter in the living room. that thing spits out hot air like my 3800 in traffic.

anyway, i just finished the campaign mode and still get killed alot in multiplayer. need to get to know the map better.

sucks that there's some guys that already spawn camping though.

i see this thread going from bf3 to console vs pc to now bf3 vs mw3.
battlefiled 3 just did better graphics more maps, and improved on things from BF2.
you think MW3 if going to be much difference from MW1 OR 2?LOL. least battlefield player got better graphics not same old engine with slight tweaks lol. have fun with your tiny maps and bulidng that are invincible to any explosion

I hate it when they blow up the building you're planting the bomb in.

Also love blowing up buildings the enemy is in or destroying walls of hallways that they like to camp.
