I did a month shy of 2 years.
I was P.O.L. (Petroleum oil and lubricants) in the Air Force.
I got up to an E-3 before they started taking stripes away.
It wasn't for me. To those in, I hope you are never forced to go to Alaska, that ruined my personal experience.
I am a vet of Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom and something else that I never remember, which deployment was my favorite time in the military.

    I joined when I was 20..
US Marines.. I graduated basic... 13 weeks of hell..
I was already a Lance Corporal(E-3) Went home and did recruiters assistance..
Got shipped back out to Camp Lejeune for MCT.. While in training.. Started having really bad pains in my side.. Played them off as long as I could..
Went to the hospital.. They told me I had the flu.. They were wrong..
My appendix ruptured.. I went 3 days and almost died when they finally found out what it was.. I had 3 surguries over the next month.. I went for 6'3" and 195-200lbs down to 112lbs at 6'3.. They had to take out about 5 feet of intestines.. The next thing I remember was SSGT Ford.. Coiming to see me with a Navy DR and telling me I was going home.. I refused.. And he told me.. Id "always be a damn Marine in his book.." But.. I had to go..

I got a medical under honerable conditions discharge.. Im 27 now.. I miss it everyday..`

At least your medical got diagnosed. I have a sleep disorder (Delayed sleep phase syndrome) and instead of getting me a sleep study which I already had scheduled, they decided to give me a general discharge 1 month before I could have kept my G.I. bill.

Since then, I have little faith in the way the military operates, but I have every ounce of respect for those who serve, past and present.

I don't think this counts but,

    Air Force ROTC in college
I am a Cadet and of course never been deployed.
When I graduate college I will be a 2nd Lieutenant.

I was discharged in Basic Training for having asthma. I had no idea, and either did the military, so I was given a positive discharge. I wish I could overturn it and re-enlist. I'd be there in a heartbeat.

Thanks to all you guys. I wanted to be a marine my whole life, but no one would take me between my Athsma and migraines. I'm currently pursuing a career in policing, hoping to get into SWAT. That's my second choice.

I was really considering going into the Army just for the training, like 2 years. Reason I backed out was that I found out that you have a much higher chance or being called in, and it was something you had to do, so I said screw it.

I would have liked to enlist. My dad is a 10 year verteran from the Air Force. He was essentially forced out during the Clinton administration due to heavy military cutbacks.

When I was 19, many many years ago (99 ) I was starting to get low on money and didn't have a job. I knew the one recruiter and he called me up one night and convinced me to come up and talk to him. After chatting it up for a while he set me up on the recruiting station computer to take a practice ASVAB. Seven minutes later I was done. He was confused and asked me 5 times if I was sure I did the whole test. I assured him I had and he ran the results.

A minute later he patted me on the back and assured me I'd have no problem on the ASVAB. I think on the practice test I got a 75 out of 80 and did it in 7 minutes. He said the average was 55 and it took most recruits upwards of 30 minutes to do.

Long story short I got a 98 out of 99 on my ASVAB and was told I could do whatever I wanted to do and was talked to about doing OCS. I started the MEPS process and thats where it ended. Several trips to MEPS, several consults and they still refused to stamp me medically qualified.

Times were different then, if it had been after 9/11 I'd probably be in to this day. Had I gotten in in 99 I'd be into my 12th year of service and be making a decent salary as an officer.

Salute to all those who serve or have served.

I was in the Air Force as a pararescueman. got out after 5 years. My assigned doctor diagnosed my ankle injury wrong. It healed wrong and ended my career. would go back in a minute if they would take a gimp.

    I'd like to think so.

Had I actually applied myself and done homework in high school I could have likely gotten a scholarship and gone to most any college. I still did well, I just didn't try.
