What is this "thing"?

I found this thing in my garage today and need help identifiying it.

It has some writing stamped into it:

Hurst Competition/Plus
US. PAT. NO. 3216274

And on the side it is stamped:

49043m

I put a picture of it in one of my albums, named "shifter", check it out,

looks like a shiftier to me

looks like a old Hurst 4 speed shiftier to me.

My friend has a car that hes working on as a restoration project and he always talks about "Hurst" stuff (probably cause the car is a 69 Hurst Olds), I'll have to show him the pics and see if he recognizes it as anything.....hes pretty sharp on random stuff like that.

I jsut found out the number 49043M indicated it is out of a 1969 GTO. I think Ill try to sell on CL.
