hello all... my name is tyler im 16 so dont have a whole lot of extra money to put on my car like i would want to so i googled car sponcers and ran across Cars sponsored by Team SCP with sponsorship for you to win races and shows i filled out an app and the next day the guy calls me and offers a sponsor ship. I told him id think about it because im not sure if its a great idea. they say i will get 30- 80% off tons of items. Well it would be nice if u guys could give me some advise if u have any thanks guys.

all it is is a marketing scheme, you get "discount" from certain places, but you have to pay a filing fee. A few guys from my camaro boards did it, and found out teh discounts meant they paid what normal places charge for stuff. A real sponsorship will want you to put the companies name on your car, and you to go to a certain number of shows with a certain number of visitors.

Getting a sponsorship isn't what you think it is. Your only going to get a discount if you buy from the people who are sponsoring you and I doubt they have anything your going to need for your car.

And... not to sound like an ass but I doubt any reputable company is going to want to sponsor your car. Let alone make that kind of decision within one days time.

Well... and true.

Mention what your drive to the company your trying to get sponsorship with and when they hear 'Grand Prix' 99% of the time thats all they need to hear to make up their mind.

What you are being offered is not a "sponsorship". You are being offered a parts discount.

My car is sponsored by the following companies:

Crutchfield
K&N
American Sportscar Design
Dynamat
Eibach
KYB

I also have discounts available to me locally by Bap Geon Auto Parts and Creative Concepts and Design (who is responsible for all of my body work and at least three different House of Kolor paint jobs).

(So, I'm not trying to be a ***** here, but define "reputable" because as far as I know, those are pretty reputable!)

In my opinion, you have to already be doing something in the auto scene in order for a company to consider you for sponsorship. For example, compete actively and place well in auto competitions.

Once you get your vehicle seen and get awards (which typically involves dumping quite a bit of cash into your ride FIRST), then you might get an offer. The offer may include product sponsorship, travel expenses for shows, etc.

My sponsorships are ongoing, and I am often called upon to show my car someplace at a vendor booth. You may have to be prepared to do things now but potentially years down the road depending on the terms of your contract. My advice to you is to make sure you have your attorney read over whatever contracts you may get. I have been very happy with mine, with no complaints, though I do miss Rex Orr from ASCD since his death last year.

Note: Keep in mind that there are very few sponsorships going on in the industry right now. NOPI even cancelled their season, which was bigtime into sponsorships...So, don't be discouraged.

I am not sure if it was your GP or not or if you would remember, but in 03 or 04, Nopi had a show in Dinwiddie and crutchfield had a white GP on display there. Just wanted to say that if it was yours, It was really bada$$. The system set up in it was the best I had seen in a while. I can only imagine what it would look like now. If not, sorry for the mix up.

Yea, one of the guys there demonstrated it for me and it sounded sweet. Do you have the same set up or have you changed it. When you said you were sponsered by crutchfield and I seen your avatar, I was like I know that car. That's pretty cool to see it that long ago and now talking to you on here.

Ordinarily, I wouldn't post in a thread like this, but the implication that my type of car prevents me from obtaining good sponsorships from "reputable" companies really rubbed me the wrong way. I guess we are all entitled to our opinions as to what "reputable" is, but I can tell you that my sponsors have all been more than generous with their product, time, and monetary contributions.

The pictures I posted here are a little old. The equipment remains the same. I started the performance mods after the audio was done, with the intention of just being equally as fast with all the weight of the audio with addition of the performance mods. I can tell you the performance mods actually make the car quite a bit faster; however, she has not been to the track since they were done. Mostly because the 192K miles on the original engine and tranny sorta' terrify me.

I guess my point is simply it doesn't matter what you drive. You have to market yourself, as well as the overall concept of what you are doing with your ride. Mine is the car to fit my personality, a little bit of everything and will still kick your ass. The other thing is too once you get one sponsor and can represent them well, the others magically appear. How easy is it for me to answer questions with, "the audio is fully from Crutchfield, with some help from Dynamat"? Very. Or "the filter is from K&N, but MAP engineering designed and installed the intake".

You get the idea.

Yo make very good points. If the sponsers only picked a person by the car they drove, all you would see is a bunch of high end luxury cars. They have to show everyone that their products are for all makes and models(to a point). Like mlambert said, You have to start with one. Even if it's not one of the top names out, represent them well and all the others will notice. Then it should only be a matter of time before the big guys are talking to you.
