The car's owner was looking at real estate in the area when he became flustered by the bird, bumped the steering wheel and accidentally veered into a muddy patch of land off Interstate 45. Unable to steer away, he and his rare French two-seater ended up in two feet of swampy saltwater.

The turbocharged 16-cylinder engine sputtered for about 15 minutes before dying. A tow truck was eventually able to drag the car from the lagoon and onto the bank.

"It's the rarest car in the world, not something you can just replace," the owner said.

Indeed, the Bugatti Veyron, considered among the world's fastest production vehicles, was one of only 15 in the U.S. and one of only 200 in the entire world.

Until the man's car is restored, might we suggest our 1990 Chevy Celebrity -- runs fine, some minor upholstery damage, $800 or best offer.
