I have no clue about diesel engines, and i told my friend that I would look around for him to help troubleshoot..

Anywhoooo.... He drives a 97 Dodge Ram 2500 with the 5.9 Cummins 12 valve inline 6 diesel engine.

Sometimes it starts, sometimes it just sits there and cranks for forever without starting. He usually has to turn the key over several times and press the accelerator 3 or 4 times then try to start it before it finally comes to life.

We have both thought down most things and it sounds to us like a fuel delivery issue. or he thinks maybe a gasket for an injector or a seal went bad and now air is getting into the diesel.. hmm

    Any help much appreciated, thanks!

It has a fuel pump in the tank just like the gas version that feeds the high pressure pump on the engine.

and you think the fuel pump in the tank might be through?.. they've put about 15k on the truck since they've had it its at 195k now.. so it wouldn't surprise me

I definitely think both things need checked, but since i know a fuel filter will be cheaper.. We will chase that down first..
