OK I dont know how many of you on here know about the racing going on in Flint, Mi lately but the last few years its become very popular. Theres several different places people race one is on the eway (those are usualy the 10 sec cars there. Then theres James P. Coles ( I will refer to it from now on as Industrial), this is where more our kind of cars show up the more stock ones. These are full out drags 1/4 mi perfectly paved road (only one in MI it seems). Well cops have been busting down a ton recently. This weekend we were out cruising in my buddies mustang. He just got it back from painting it. And riding with some people. While just sitting out at our normal hangouts there was about 15 cruisers we kept seeing patrolling the area pulling anyone and everyone over if they did anything wrong.

Well on to the fun part. We decided to run down to industrial and see what was going on. As we are getting close I notice an out of place car and tell my buddy that it was an undercover and not to stay theres something going on. So we turn down industrial its packed as always and we just drive through. The rest of the people that were with us stayed. We get maybe 4 minutes away and my friend gets a phone call. They had blocked the strip in and caught about 60 cars... everyone got tickets and the racers were towed.. how crazy so happy I saw that popo....

But now the one thing I dont understand were in one of the crime capitals in the nation and they are more owrried about the races that rarely hurt anyone... then catching the drug dealers and murderers... hmmmm

havent been down there once this year....

I have one of the fieros that have went down there in years past....

Illegal street racing can become murder.
Manslaughter, and only if you have idiots spectating in stupid spots... for some reason people feel the need to walk across the dragstrip part ALL OF THE DAMN TIME, as well as pull out of this popular driveway just past the 1/4 mile part.....

Its not dangerous for racers, just stupid spectators and the massive amount of drunk drivers that come through the area.

Exactly my point. Manslaughter and murder are both killing people.

Exactly what he said^^^ the ones racing take all precautions not to harm anyone... And if people are smart and stay on the spectators side of the median there are no issues at all. The only time i saw anyone crash was when a kid had daddies trans am out and couldnt handle it wrapped it around a pole.. no one was hurt that day

Either way it's ****ing ridiculous. If you want to race, take it on a safe controlled environment where by standards are not allowed to stumble on the road. Not to mention the "drunk" people driving through. Totally moronic.

I just go during the day..... the cruise nights were just habbits/traditions... oh well.

I had some great times down there years ago.. but the last 3 years have been taken over by large groups of roudy messy drunk young spectators..... When that happened I drew the line.

thats why its not worth it to me so many people have been hit and killed down there this year. im starting to grow up and va;ue my life and family and friendsover some stupid street race. but if the conditions are right im totally game but still understand the consequences. two weekends ago i went down to grand river where they race and it was so packed and people are doing 100 plus swerving in traffic.....and by the end of the night i watched 2 croch rockets crash and both people died......**** makes you realize it isnt worth it.

they did build racetracks for a reason...i'm not trying to be the relgious guy banging on your door and preaching to you about why street racing is dangerous...but here's some pictures of some victims and you can decide

notice any trend? every car is destroyed?

all it takes is an inexperienced driver(as said above) and your car parked in the wrong spot, or you standing on the wrong sidewalk, or an bystander that was just passing through.

All the times I've bothered to spectate for street racing, I've always done it from a floor or two up if I could help it. If I couldn't find something to keep me on the safer side, I didn't spectate, I left.

It's not worth ending up in jail to see who's best, and tickets aren't cheap (the fine for street racing around here, aside from impounding your car is a few grand in fines). If I do race, I follow some simple policies. I never race on trafficked streets, I never race in weathered conditions, and I never go more than once and I always choose to slow down and lose over taking a risk. I've seen some ricers pay everything from damaged parts all the way up to the ultimate price, just for the sake of ego. It's not worth it.

If you want to race consistently, go to the track. If you want to race all the time, get a career in it or get some help.

The Flint street racing spot was overall REALLY safe... It was completely abandoned, and rarely was there a big/stupid crowd... People would race, and the whole race spot was always clear of traffic.... Now there is traffic, kids, drunk idiots, and bad/drunk drivers...

Honestly I dont think any semi serious street racing stuff has happened at that spot in 5 years anyway, so its unfair to call it "street racing" when it really is just dumb people dicking around.

this is a perfectly good reason why i watch the races here in flint and not race, secondly theres almost to many morons that race that don't know how and will side swipe your car or do something stupid and hit a civilian

I won't race there, i watch, but i do **race** if someone pulls up to me that seems alright and not some dumbass kid thats going to get us both nailed.

Holy hell a few grand for a ticket? i guess i got really lucky..

maybe if there was more than one 1/4 strip in the whole state there wouldnt be as big of a problem.

That strip is also 2+ hours from the capitol, and 3 from omaha.

Your the same guy that tells the cop who's giving you a ticket for speeding to "go catch a real ciminal" street racing is illegal....cops ticket/arrest people doing things that are illegal....no its not murder but your still breaking the law. If you don't like the risk don't play the game. You can't blame police for doing there job....not like murderers get together in the middle of the night in a pack of 60 cars and make themselves a giant target.....from what it sounds like they made it easy for them to be caught
