I felt like showing these pictures to you guys. It is of my grandpa's neighbors tractor. He was cutting alfalfa a few days ago when it started on fire. They aren't sure what started the fire but it was somewhere under the cab. My grandpa went to get his semi from my uncles house which is 3 miles from where the tractor was. They have a 2000 gallon water tank on it that they use to fill their sprayer. When he got down there the truck was gone because another neighbor had borrowed it to go spray. They drove 10 miles to get the truck and by the time they got to the tractor it was pretty much toast.

A couple years ago my grandpa pulled one of his tractors out of the shed to go do something with it. He decided to go back in the house quickly and when he got back out the tractor was on fire. He got it put out and it wasn't nearly as bad as this one. They still use the tractor today but there is a nice burn mark on the hood right near the cab. Later that day I went out there and lightning started a fire in a pasture. It burned a few acres but with the help of about everyone in a 20 mile radius it got put out.

Here are the pictures. They aren't the best quality because they are from my phone.

i assume the farmer is OK, but man that is a sad sad sight to see. 'ol red power beast beaten down like that. --lol... straight pipe too, no muffler for that bad boy-- though it looks to me like the cab was a retrofit, perhaps? the tractor looks to be prior to the 'black stripe" decal change in the early 80's but the cab looks like one from the post-"black stripe" change over (yeah i grew up on a farm) perhaps something went awry with the retrofitted cab.. but heck, who knows. there's enough wiring in and around metal objects that chafing/shorting is a likely scenario... shoot rodent damage for that matter!

Deere makes good equipment but as far as I am concerned they are just overpriced green paint.

Sucks to see the tractor burned up like that. The fire must have been pretty dang hot considering the tires are burnt off. Atleast the farm is ok and it didn't start the alfalfa on fire and burn the hydraswing up too.

The farmer was fine. He had just enough time to grab his water jug and get out.

To be honest, I have no clue about the tractor. I bleed green so it's a little tough to show interest in an IH tractor haha. It was a little tough when I went out there last summer and saw a Case sitting in one of my uncles fields. He got a pretty good deal on one and needed a new tractor so he picked it up. They needed a new rim for it so they used a JD one that they had so they have a red Case with one yellow rim. It looks pretty weird. My uncle and grandparents farm and ranch together and all of their equipment is JD except for their hay rake(Vermeer), Hydroswing(NH), one tractor (Case), and their sprayer which is a homemade jobbie made out of an old Chevy truck frame and a Combine cab. It is actually pretty nice for what it started out as.

Man, that sucks about the tractor. Hopefully insurance will cover it? Farmers don't make much to start with, then have to replace an expensive piece of machinery.

But FWIW, I am a Case man myself....but only really cause by dad was, and his dad was....much like why I am a GM man.

but are you a CASE man or a IH man? there's a difference, even though it's all one big happy family now.
