so i am eligible for my upgrade from verizon and im looking forward to tossing my blackberry storm out the window on the highway. i can get both the iphone4 and the majority of the droid platform phones for pretty much the same price, but i am really unsure as to which i would rather have. do you guys have any solid opinions on why one is better than the other?

i have never been an apple fanboi, so i never really planned on getting an iphone, but from playing with them a couple of times the software seems really solid and i've never really experienced any lag in transitions which is definitely a plus. however, i've never really had my hands on a droid phone to compare.

im kind of looking at a few of the droids (they all seem to be very similar), but im partially swayed by the slider keyboard the droid x2 has. it always seemed like my touch screen seemed to lock up if it got a little damp or anything on my blackberry. any issues like that you have experienced?

i have had every version of the iphone there is.. I love them, and was never a big apple fan until i used such an intuitive and simple phone..
we actually just bought my wife a white iphone4 yesterday for her business. great item

ive never had any problems with my iphones.. especially the 4. ive got a few friends with droids, and sometimes they complain about battery issues, but thats more handset issue and less OS issue.

I have an iphone, if your looking for a flawless touch screen, the iphone is great. Never had a problem with the touch screen on it.

If you want to be able to customize your phone more, then the android platform is the way to go.

I have an upgrade soon too, which when that happens, I plan on upgrading to a android phone instead.

Good luck finding something you like.

Ive had an iPhone for 2-3ish years now I think it is and I still love the phone. It's never laggy which is great and it serves as my iPod as well.

The only problem I have with iPhone is the ding dang battery. It worked great for a long time, but now the phone is a year or so old and it's starting to go dead quicker.

I have a LG Ally (Android powered) for about a yr now and its been decent. The screen never locks up or anything. The only complaint I have about mine is that it goes retarded sometimes. Anytime I upload a pic to fb from my phone it says space is low, and I have to erase something off it, even tho I have a sd card.

I have heard good things about the casio commando. Might wanna look into those. They look neat as hell

I just went out and bought the droid charge by samsung, and love it. I looked at the iphone, and you can't really personalize them like you can the charge. I got my girlfriend the HTC thunderbolt and she's freakin obsessed with it. She wnated an iphone but didn't like it once she looked at the thunderbolt. Their all really the same, just some have bigger screens or more toys.

i do love the way that the droid platform allows you to customize the phone more and has more of an open source feel to it, but im just unsure if i'll ever make it that far with it. doing changes to the phone to make it respond and act differently than off the shelf form may not be something i ever get to.

Biggest thing to watch out for is the open nature of Android. If you by and Iphone, you get an Iphone.. there's only one really (except for generation). The system is closed so not much chance of messing the phone up by loading something on to it. You gain ease and functionality. I prefer Android cuz... ( I just dont like Apples restrictiveness, personal preference).

With android you have a very open platform so anyone can make a phone for it (within reason). You have to shop wisely and way out the benefits. I have the Sprint Evo and love it minus the HUGE ****ing size of it. Its like haveing a TV in my front ****ing pocket but it does everything I would have thought I needed from a phone. Never slows down and has those "little extras". My wife has a smaller more manageable Samsung Intercept but it has less memory, smaller screen, sometimes slows down, locks up, less likely to get more than 1 Android update.

I think Apple is great for simple and functional ( and it plays very well with other apple stuff if you use it, i.e. iTunes) but Androids UI alone smacks Apple around. You can customize anything you want and that means make it a simple as you need or advanced as you would like. Just shop around to make sure the phone has enough power and memory or you'll kick yourself.

and,... did I mention I'm biased cuz I'm a PC user and Apple sucks! :P

I've got the droid 2. I stick with this one over the other droids cuz it has the actual keypad on it. (I don't like typing on touch screen, even though it has great response and accuracy) I've had a droid since they first came out and I absolutely love them! I couldn't ask for anything else out of a phone. Don't think ill ever switch to anything else. I tried playin with an iphone, it was cool, but it just didn't impress me or have certain features that the droid does.

Either way you go remember a iPhone isn't an iPhone until it's jailbroken and droid software isn't a droid until you root, just remember don't let company's tell you you can't have this ****em it's yours and it will be the way you like it

Have the HTC Incredible right now. I love it for the simple fact that it's never the same for more than a week at a time. I toss different ROMs on it all the time.. Currently running WarmZ's ported HTC Desire Rom with Sense 2.0 and loving it. Though I'm sure I'll probably switch again soon.

...because Android IS open source lol. In all seriousness though, get the Thunderbolt or the Droid Charge. The Thunderbolt is faster (compare benchmarks, all who disagree) by about 25% and the camera takes more realistic photos, but the Charge will have better battery life due to its lower-power screen. I have the Thunderbolt with the extended battery and it lasts me two full days with moderate use, so I can't even say that the battery life is an issue.

And 2.3 is supposed to offer battery life improvements among quite a few other things people have been wanting (like Netflix on the Thunderbolt).

I had an iphone 3G and now an iphone 4. I was never an apple person but the iphone is a great product made by them. I have never had any issues. I jailbreak mine so that I can customize it to my liking. My cousins all have android phones and their biggest complaints are battery life. I have played around with the droid software and it's also pretty good. I am just used to the iphone IOS. I like the iphone 4 but if I were you, I would wait for the next iphone to come out around the september time frame.

anyone played with both the thunderbolt and the charge? it seems like the thunderbolt would be more my style, but the charge seems to be newer (doesnt mean better, i know).

I have used both, and the Charge seems to be more for moving Apple people to Android. I say this because the app tray is horizontally scrolling unlike most other UI implementations, and ALL of the icons are the Apple-style rounded squares with an image on them -- the Charge also really likes to accentuate colors on the display. It's also made of more plastic than metal, so to me it feels cheaply made vs the Thunderbolt. The Charge also has physical buttons in contrast to the capacitive buttons of the Thunderbolt. I also noticed that the Charge lags quite a bit more in the UI than the Thunderbolt does. Your best bet is to cart your ass over to the Verizon store and play with the ones they have on display and get the one you like more. Also, if you don't live in a 4G market you might as well look into getting the Droid X2 instead because it's faster with its dual core processor.

Ive had tons of motorola droids! They have all been crap! I started with the original which i hated then it went crazy started calling random people and opening apps whenever it felt like it. verizon replaced it 4 times all of them with different issues then they upgraded me to the x which was nice(er) then they started having issues also ive now had 3 of them. My present one is very laggy but still makes calls and all the features work just slow as hell. The only reason i stay with android is for the torque app if iphone had it i would switch in a heartbeat. Dunno if that helps bio but ive had a ton of issues with mine! all motorolas though.
